I always wanted to make that game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This is the end result.

Generic RM2k3 RTP Gaming Fun!

Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Toggle between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Dragon Quest III and Final Fantasy V, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.

Highlights:
-22 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 3 secret classes, 3 master classes)
-TONS of game content and sidequests
-Classic NES-era and SNES-era RPG gameplay
-Great music
-Multi-party switching system (like Kefka's Tower in FFVI!)
-Multi-party tactical battles (at least 5 of them!)
-Massive world map
-Fun

The story is split into 5 chapters, with each of the first four chapters focusing on a new hero, and the 5th chapter bringing them all together.

Chapter 1: Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children?
Chapter 2: There is Something Fishy Going on...
Chapter 3: Land of the Rising Son
Chapter 4: True Calling
Chapter 5: The War on Terror

A while back I was interviewed by a writer from Hyper Magazine regarding RPG Maker, its community and my personal experiences with it. He told me that it was for a future article on the greater RPG Maker community for his Australia-based magazine.

Two months later Hyper Issue #203 hit the shelves and lo and behold the article was published! Since it is not sold where I live, SGCN had kindly purchased the magazine and scanned in the relevant pages. I have re-uploaded the file here for your leisured reading!

This article is really good - much better than I was expecting (or was it fearing?). Liam did a good job overall at giving the community a fair shake, and juxtaposing commercial and non-commercial activities. All the interviewees gave great, honest answers that really reflect well back on the RM community.

Glossy Ahoy!

Also, woohoo for the plug for RMN!

Damn skippy we are!

The full article (Warning! Large images):

It looks like that along with me, Drunken_Paladin and harmonic were interviewed by Liam (the Hyper writer), with DP giving it the creative outlet angle, myself going on about nostalgia, and harmonic giving his commercial venture perspective. Actually, I was surprised at how like-minded we are in a lot of respects!

All in all it is a great article! Thanks Liam, and thanks Hyper!

I have just played the game and i loved the use of "Old School RPG". The storyline about the game was really well done as was the music you used througout.

What do you mean about Brickroad's RTP trick? You mean removing the need for RTP to be installed? Yeah, I won't be bothering to do that until I've finished the game.
chapters and bringing the characters together reminds me of suikoden.Ill play it when it is completed.
How do you start this game?
I get a message about not being able to run system2c?

@dondorian noob: You need to install RM2k3 and it's RTP to play Hero's Realm.
@edchuy: not yet...

@everyone else: Thanks for the comments!
This is the first RPG Maker game I've ever tried and you've definitely left a good taste in my mouth. I enjoyed how you played off using characters and music from other games. It because a sort of side game for me to guess where songs came from, the best was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!

Glad to be of service to you in your quest to play RM games. (My personal fave midi in Hero's Realm is The Price is Right theme song.)
Totally cute, man. Love what you did with the class system. I was so torn on what to make my party!

So many classes to choose from! Gah! Every time I go to make a party I'm stuck wondering what would be the best for me. And then when I get 'em all picked...I just want more! Bleh. Ha ha. I didn't post any comments here yet, did I? Wow. I can't believe it. But I DO remember posting somewhere, so maybe it was in the blog?

Oop. Sorry for the ramblings. Anywhoo, I hope that this is still under production, even if it's only a bit a day! Or every two days! It will eventually get done! I can't wait to see a finished version of this game! You've gotta do it, Kentona!
Love the game and its class system. Kentona, don't you think its about time to scrap the forum on your website and startover with it. 1/2 of it is screwed up, 9/20 of it is spam, and 1/20 of the posts are actual posts.

Ha! Yeah, too true. It was originally set up for some beta testers. I will scrap it eventually. However, the website is at the bottom of my TODO list for the game right now.
How do u play the game!!!!!!!!!!
