***This is a rather long topic and it WILL contain spoilers***

I think I'm part of the rare group that didn't care to much for the old Superman movies. I thought they were to goofy and over the top. I mean come on, the infamous flying around the world scene. In my oppinion, they were a product of their era. Which I know alot of super hero movies were like that back then. Now, we fast forward to 2013 and we have Man Of Steel. I figured since it was made by the creators of the new Batman movies, it will be good. In my oppinion, for the most part it was.

I do enjoy watching the nostalgia critic, but I didn't agree really with his take on the film. I thought the actors played the parts really well. When Louis Lane first acted all bad ass looking trying to cover her story. The Nostalgia Critic knocked the her for wanting to drop her story after she discovered the true story from Superman himself. I thought it was well written, she felt bad and didn't want him discovered yet. Clearly the emotion on her face would say that. Though I did agree that his adopted dad was a bit of a contradiction. Stating the world would benifit from his gift and blah blah blah, but yelled at Clark when he said he wanted to be more then just a farmer.

I Really enjoyed the futuristic look of Krypton. The part where the simulation of Clarks real father used the ship to explain Kryptons history was really cool. Other then the fight scenes, my favorite part was where the simulation of Clarks dad helped Louis Lane escape the ship, it was genius. Sure it was a bit over the top, but I'm used to that from Zack Snyder.

Lastly, the neck break part. I liked it, a bit dark but I liked it. Alot of people were thrown off by that because they say that's not what Superman would do. 1) He was faced with either letting the people die, or kill Zod. 2) Anyone who knows the early Superman comics knows the he is darker then the modern world knows. 3) It was a much needed change of pace in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they didn't play with that much at all. After he kiled Zod, he was clearly bothered by it, but the next scene was him all happy messing with the government.

I may have missed some points about the movie, but this topic is already long enough. Have fun RMN and weigh in your thoughts.
Man of Steel is what happens when you take an idea made for 10-year old boys in the 1940s and make it palatable for 30 year olds in the 2010s.
It's the reason I prefer Marvel movies over DC.

Interesting quote. I myself prefer Marvel, but dose that mean you don't like Man Of Steel?
Superhero movies since the first Thor all feel like the first X-Men movie to me:
Lots of exposition, shallow character development, style over substance, uninteresting antagonists...
I kept yawning during Man of Steel for those reasons. I've never been really interested in Superman as a superhero though, so I can only speak for myself.

I preferred Watchmen, Kick-Ass 1&2, Batman Begins & The Dark Knight...
Man of Steel was okay in parts. I know a lot of people knocked it for its ridiculous fighting scenes. And I can agree that the fighting scenes completely lacked any kind of stakes since it was essentially two unbeatable characters fighting it out for far too long (see also the third matrix movie). But the thing I enjoyed was the one fight with the semi-teleporting character where it seemed like each blow was a still image and then stuff just moved along. Many people say "it was like a video game" as something negative but I sort of liked the fact that it felt like a video game beat 'em up.

Other than that I also remember the opening scene on Krypton and thinking "a movie couldn't have done this ten years ago". Not because of CGI (because that wasn't that great) but because of the fact that it opens on an alien world where people speak about things with a weird lingo that is fairly incomprehensible. The fact that we've had all these superhero movies has sort of made audiences used to really ridiculous things not rooted into anything real.

Which is both a positive and negative I suppose. It's funny to see average RPG dialogue delivered with seriousness and pondus in big movies. But it's also... you know, RPG dialogue.

On the whole I'd say I was lukewarm on the movie. It was fairly forgettable in the end. I remember I did enjoy the music theme though.

Terrible movie. To be honest, it's very difficult to make a gripping Superman movie given the near-invincible, near-omnipotent nature of the character. Heroes like Batman/Spider-Man/The X-Men etc. are much better characters due to their flaws.

I completely dis agree calling it a terrible movie, sure it had flaws but it wasnt by any means terrible. Now Electra, that was terrible. So by saying Man Of Steel was terrible, it's being put in the same class as Electra which Man Of Steel is WAY better then.
It was not great, while other movie reboots are great Spiderman and X-Men in example this is just the example of how bad D.C. is when it comes to live actions movies. With the exception of the first 2 Batman films (some people like Watchmen some hate it) which were also littered with problems D.C. need to steer clear of live action because they apparently have no idea how to bring it together succesfully (Green Lantern).
Here is the problem with Man Of Steel. It's forgettable, the problem that so many people have with it is when Superman kills Zodd, I don't have a problem with that I had a problem with how it was handled it is just glanced over and forgotten. When I was done watching it while other movies even bad ones stick with you Man Of Steel boils down to being completely forgettable. The animated movies are pretty good, they should stick that because they do those correctly at least.
On the film entirely it was worse than Kick-Ass 2 but way more forgettable and Kick Ass 2 was only memorable because of Christopher Mintz-Plassel.
I thought it was a pretty decent movie up until it started to make Michael Bay's explosive movies look like low budget titles with little special effects.

Seriously, I was cringing at the endless explosion porn throughout the last half of the movie. It was way too frequent and way too over the top.

I do agree on that, way to much BOOM! Seriously though, I really don't see it as bad as most people do. I mean come on, I've seen more good reviews for Sharknado then Man Of Steel and thats REALLY sad. I don't how or why, or for that matter what drugs the cast and production team were using, but Sharknado is getting a 2nd movie. Yet people want to talk as if Man Of Steel should be one and done.
It was... alright.

I think the Batman movie adaptions are far better personally (watched Rises recently and it was the fucking tits), but whatevs.
I thought it was all right. Not in the same league for me as any of the earlier Spiderman movies, Blade’s, Iron Man’s or any of the newer Batman movies - but it wasn’t all that bad. I never really watched any of the earlier Superman movies back in the day, so I didn’t know what to expect but ended up being pleasantly surprised. If they end up making another one like this, I’d see it.
Man of Steel is awful

I actually agree with this. Man of Steel wasn't the greatest movie, but to say its terrible, well, I can show you some terrible movies, bro.
Man of Steel fucking blows. Most of the character's purposes and reasoning for their actions didn't make much sense but who cares throw in a meadow and some sad music and people will love it.I thought it was hilarious Louis' main purpose in the entire movie was to literally push a button.

Man of steel is just like Electra except served on a nicer plate

I'm sorry, but you are WAY wrong. It's just my oppinion, but I'm sure alot of people will agree. Man Of Steel was in NO way "just like Electra." Man Of Steel actually had substance, the movie made more sense, the characters (most of them) weren't dull and it was more visually pleasing. The only thing good about Electra was how hot Jennifer was. It made no sense how Electra was an important character for the most part in Dare Devil, yet the only apperance he made in Electra was a small cameo. Lastly, for you to say they are basically the same thing, in my oppinion that makes you a bad judge of movies.

you must be high as a kite if you think any word resembling "substance" should be used to describe man of steel. the "creative" new take on cryptonians are basically sayians with body suits from gears of war .All the characters are so dull and uninteresting, the dog(stupidest death scene ever by the way) that appeared for 5 seconds was more interesting than the entire cast.

TLDR Version
Because you didn't like electra doesn't make MOS less shitty.
I thought it was OK, but I don't know much about Superman, so my opinion is purely based on the entertainment factor. That being said, I thought it was kind of dumb that he is supposed to be this good guy yet doesn't do any effort to move the fight away from the city.
