DOES A GAME'S DOWNLOAD SIZE MATTERS TO YOU?
Posts
My internet sucks so big filesizes really put me off. If I'm interested in your game, I'll probably go to about 80MB. If I like *know* I'll like your game, then I'll go past 100.
(If I said I wanted to betatest then I'll go to ~200MB apparently)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I honestly think that a small filesize could easily be detrimental as people will assume you have lower quality sound and graphics, and thus be less interested in the game. I know I've seen indie games that are only 10-20 MB and thought "Oh, so it probably has extremely minimalist graphics." And was usually right. Bad graphics don't matter at all to me personally, I don't care if the games I play look like FF13 or Nethack, but if I were a normal player would probably not download the game at that point.

AAGcould be gigabytes in size and I would still download it. Conversely, Barkley could be infinitesimally small and it would still be a waste of space. Quality is more important than anything else.
the logic is astounding
File size is an issue for me cause New Zealand internet sucks. My bandwidth cap is pretty low and I only download games I know I will like, last one was Alter Aila Genesis.
i don't give a shit at all because i have fast internet and a terabyte hard drive thanks to capitalism and white privilege, but yeah anything over 100mb in an rpg maker game is a little ridiculous just on principle. ofc presentation is a big factor; if your game has custom graphics and everything a big filesize typically becomes a lot more excusable (and then hopefully the game is actually good)
i guess ideally the game would be good regardless, though
what i'm saying is as long as you can justify your filesize it's probably reasonable! ("tons of sick ff7 mp3s" isn't a justification)
I prefer games that have bigger file sizes. I know that on average, those games under 5mb are ussualy crap because of the rtp-only. I think people who are not familiar with rpg maker will also frown upon an "epic rpg" that is only 2mb.
I also have fast internet and a high bandwidth cap.

Principle? What principle? Seems like a very dumb reason to write off a game.
Just "cuz"

Harmonic, can you please not act dumb here? Learn to read the rest of his post before you comment.
He means "principle" as in because rpg maker games are 2D and are usually not meant to be more than 100MB. But cho did mention the last sentence, so harmonic, your post is redundant and ridiculous.
My game is around 100mb...and if it looks good, REAL good, I'll download up to around 150. But I live in Australia, and my net sucks balls. It can sometimes take me a hour to download a 3mb MP3 on bad days. I've had d/l speeds of 5kb/s.
Dial-Up was 50kb/s.
Though my bandwidth is 500gb, I'd never use it all.

Hmmm...Not really... Well until it gets past 500 MB.
I have a 1GB Resource folder, so I try to pick the specific resources out so ya know...
Actually, I need to make a help request for that now.
And doesn't mean that it is more than a gig (spelled that wrong? lol) doesn't mean that the maker is code-inefficient, it could be a LONG game.

If I’ve been waiting for a particular project, when it finally gets a release, I’ll download it at any size. I won’t care
But if, on a passing whim, I fancy checking out a game and it’s file size is humungous, I sometimes find myself looking for something else, especially if its not a completed project as I share a family computer. But I will if I know I’m going to be busy, and not be waiting for a 150+ MB project to download just to play, as sometimes my connection is lame if my brother is downloading thousands of episodes of American sitcoms, and watching porn on his laptop.

Aw, look, he's acting tough :3
Listen carefully. I think that highlighting one aspect of a game as being ridiculous "on principle," using an arbitrary number of 100MB is absurd.
Reading your post was like having a little scottish terrier trying to bark at me.

Very interesting. :|
Anyways, I have to agree with you, if I have been waiting for it, I will definitely
download it, any size.( I mean well... Ya know not THAT huge... but)
The only thing I could see that would even pump up the size to an extreme level would be .mp3s or really, really high-level graphics... I suppose it depends on how good I thought the game looked. But since I goof off on the computer for hours anyway, having a file download in the background is no biggie, so file size isn't that big a deal to me.
