EVEN DAY

Even day can turn to night,
Even dark can become light,
For every death there is a life,
For every breath a last goodnight.
For shadows, sun
For boredom, fun
In evil, good
In cannot, could
And at the end of every day
The time does tick and fast away
There comes an end to every thing
For life and love, a purpose, bring.

QUILL, a young woman whose memory has fled, and SEI, a rogue searching for his place in the world, embark on a quest to save a kingdom from the threat of war. Joined by Sei's sister TIYA, a huntress in the king's court, and her lover TOA, a noble man of lowly birth, they search for the answers as to the King's disappearance. Along the way they meet many foes and friends including CRYPT, a dark magician learning the way of good, and his accomplice SPIDA, a weapon mistress of the Craign race, MIKI, a childish exotic dancer and the enigmatic Sarin, RAKE.

Together this band of mismatched adventurers learn of love, hate, good and evil and the secrets behind the strange happenings in their world. For behind every evil deed lies a motive and finding the truth can sometimes hurt more than one can know...

NOTES
This game was started in 1998 via RPG Maker PSX and continued being crafted via bookwork until I found RM2K in 2001. I then began to work on the game in that engine and got quite a bit done before jumping to another project. In 2004-5 I went back to Even Day and fixed a few things that bugged me, including more detail in maps. I've now picked it back up again as a boredom buster (whilst waiting for the internet to come back on) and fixed a few problems and map errors.

Released Demo for RS!DX

So here it is, finally. A demo release for Even Day. It's bound to be a bit rough in places and there may be a few MINOR bugs but I'm quite sure there's nothing game breaking. Not a very long demo, but there's two towns, a dungeon and a castle so hopefully players will have fun.

The battles aren't as great as they could be at the moment and Sei's attack is all kinds of messed up. I'm working on it, slowly. And the maps are where I want them to be. ^.^ Except the castle ones.

When I created this game (one of my first!) I had the gigantic map disease. It's slowly getting reversed but most parts that area accessible during the demo have been fixed in that respect, thank God.

Well, just hope you enjoy it and if there's any problems tell me. I'll get fixing as soon as I can!

This looks very enjoyable. Hope you manage to get it finished this time around!
Liberty! You're still around!
Good luck with this, it looks ace. >:3
Reminds a lot of Oblivion, which is a good thing. One gripe I have is that the menu is kind of... bland at the moment.
I'm really looking forward to this. Also inb4 Sei=gay jokes.

I think I found your first bug:

When Sei tells her sister where her gift came from, you get taken outside the sector where his house is to get told a "What!" and then the screen shakes. After that game seems to get stuck (no escape menu, nor do enter no arrow keys respond), although music continues to play in the background and you can actually resize the window using F4 ...

I could probably start from save 3, but then again, I would like to see what happened before that save. So I guess I'll wait for a fix ...
Sorry about that, I was sure I'd fixed it (about three times now! ^.^')

FIXERERED!

I got to the point where after a save, there is a scene involving a weary traveller in a desert, who falls asleep. After that the game mentioned that the file kamau_suikoden2_02 couldn't be opened, which I was able to find as a faceset from another game I have in my PC. A couple of characters appear in the left bottom corner of the screen, but then another message saying file kamau_suikoden2_04 can't be opened. I checked and I don't have this file. Liberty, where you supposed to provide these files in the demo or how are we supposed to get them? I hope the problem only occurs for this scene and won't be recurrent, although if you are able to provide a solution it won't be an issue ... I'll wait for your answer.
strangely enough the files should have been included, but I tried trimming some files and must have taken them out. Unfortunately my video card is DEAD so I'll have to delay the fix. :( There've been a few other errors, so if you want, just name a charaset/faceset the name missing for a stop-gap measure. There's not much more beyond that point, though, so it may be a good idea to just end it there for now. I'll fix it up when I can get access to my computer again.
sorry and thanks for telling me about these problems.
There are 5 files missing from your demo, 4 of which I found in other games.

BF4dream.mid >> Music
BOXOPEN.WAV >> Sound
Cover - Beasts.png >> Panorama
kamau_suikoden2_02.bmp >> Faceset
kamau_suikoden2_04.bmp >> Faceset

The only one I couldn't find was Cover - Beasts.png
(probably a custom resource)

This zip file contains the 4 files I did find, for anyone who wants to fix the demo:

Thanks for your reply, Liberty. I guess that's probably the result of trying to reduce filesize and not keeping unused resources in the file. I'll go ahead and try to get as far as I can. But don't worry, while waiting I've been able to finish to other demos, before I can retake yours. Good luck getting your computer back online! I guess thanks to Segnin, you will only need to track down that other file unless I somehow manage to find something else (hopefully not).

Segnin thanks for noting what was missing and sharing the files. I guess it wasn't just my nerves ... It won't only help me but also anybody else that has downloaded the demo until Liberty is able to provide a more permanent fix.

I actually continued playing with the files provided by SegNin and found a couple more things:

- there's a missing Faceset file: atelier_b.png, a very commonly used one (I probably had about 10 copies from different games) that's needed to be able to talk to Duchess Angelique outside the castle and during the ball
- just after Quill, Sei and Tiya say they need to go to the garden to hear, the game gets stuck in a loop starting with the Sei saying King leaves when the moon is full and ending in Tiya saying the Princess becoming Queen if he dies, which repeats endlessly

Plus I would like to ask you a couple of questions, which could lead to more bugs if you didn't want them to work that way:

- when you get to Camlon Castle you can't get back to Ellis Forest since it says it is too dark, so that means you can't go back to see some new things at Camlon City ... Is this what you intended?
- when Quill wakes up from her nap after the scene with the weary traveller to rejoin Sei, the menu is no longer accessible ... Is this what you intended?

In the meantime, other than getting these questions answered, I think I'll be able to provide you with some feedback within the next couple of days.
That missing FaceSet file is part of the RPG Maker 2000 RTP.
I just assumed since Liberty didn't include any RTP files that he expected us to install the RTP to play his game.
So, I didn't bother to check which RTP files were missing.

A lot of RM games require the RTP for that particular engine--what I mean is that RM 2000 games often require the RTP for RM 2000, RMXP games often require the RTP for RMXP, etc.

So, download and install this:
http://www.kobrasrealm.net/downloads.php?1

Then download and install this:
http://www.kobrasrealm.net/downloads.php?2

Then you'll have the complete RTP for RM 2000.

Now for RM 2003...that's where it get's tricky because there's about half-dozen different RTP's for it--including the foreign ones (although only 2 of them are the ones most commonly used with English games)

If you want, I'll upload the 2 most common RM 2003 RTP's for you.

And for the XP and VX RTP's, just go to Enterbrain's site to find them.

SegNin,

Thanks for your help. I have found usually most RM games, except some in XP and VX, will crash very early (usually before or right after the title screen) if missing the corresponding RTP of the engine. I do have the RTPs at hand. The RM2k3 that you mention are KVlad's traslation and version 1.08, right? What resources each RTP actually contains is beyond me ...

Also, just to pass along a little wisdom, Liberty's a "she" ... (Don't worry, I made the same mistake!)
No, I'm talking about the RTP, not the different versions of RPG Maker.

The RTP's I have are one by RPGAdvocate & one by some unknown person.
Both are labeled as RTP v.1.0, but many of the same files have different names.

Example: in the Monster folder, Uroboros / oroboros.

AFAIK, there is at least 7 RTP's: the official Japanese RTP, a French RTP, a Portuguese RTP, a Russian RTP, and 3 English RTP's, with the least common of the 3 probably being the oldest, since a few files are not in English, and a few midi files are missing:

The least common one also has a lame pun: instead of labeling some of the Backdrop files as Dungeon, it has them as donjohn (ugh)

~~~~~~~ And I knew he was a girl, I just have a tendency to mistype when I'm watching something on TV while I'm on the computer (Gonzaga is getting pwned by Syracuse now)
Thanks a lot for the help and pointing out the bugs you found. I've now (hopefully) addressed each problem you brought up and am happy to announce the new and improved FIXERERED version. Hopefully there's no more game-breakers, though there are a few minor mistakes here and there that I'm getting to.
Thank you both!
OK. I'll go ahead and wait for it to be accepted by RMN. I'll do a replay with this new version and let you know if I find any other significant issues (hopefully not, minor ones are understandable). I'll also make sure to check your new version looks like the screenshots you have posted. Let's say that I have found plugging missing files (which hopefully I won't need to do this time) for RM2k3 sometimes has some weird graphical results that look nothing as was what people have posted in the Images section of their game.
Yeah, I noticed a few of my chipset edits had changed some areas (tables became bed canopies). I've fixed some up, but I may have missed others. It's my own fault for editing as I go along. ^.^ Thanks!
Okay, so the newest version is up. Whether it's got anything else wrong with it I'm not sure, but I should have killed all game killers. Thanks all (edchuy ^.^) for being so patient. Enjoy~
