Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode II War of The Abyss

When you post a topic, expect that their will be criticism even before anybody plays the demo version or receives the completed game. What Mawk is stating is that instead of addressing the criticism here on this thread, you appear to be brushing it away, even while maintaining a calm, collective manner.

Your calmness is actually quite commendable when it's so easy to get defensive and rude in the face of criticism, but it can be taken to the opposite extreme as well, by appearing that you don't care enough to get into an arguement, and therefore don't acknowledge and address the concerns other than to suggest for people to try the demo. Keep in mind, even while the demo is free, people need to be sold on the idea of giving up their time to playing the demo. And if they see no reason to play the demo, they're not very likely to purchase and/or play the final product.

That said, the graphics don't look all that bad to me - a bit too dark, maybe, but not bad - and the overall design looks to be a more impressive game than the previous installment. Then again, I'm fairly easy to please, and others may have higher standards, especially when it comes to commercial games.

Thank you for the feedback! When it comes to criticism we have no problem with that, as long as it is constructive and specific. There were some comments made earlier that were altogether vague and not very constructive such as

looking at your screenshots so far, I'd place my focus far more heavily on quality than on quantity
, hence why we did not engage very much. The demo will be up in a day or two, and we do hope you and everyone else will take a gander at it and tell us what you think.

We do try not to argue with customers or potential customers as that is typically viewed as a major "no-no" for a commercial entity like ourselves in such a competitive industry, and professionalism is something we strive to maintain regardless of where our game pages may be located at. We definitely do take constructive criticism into account, and if a suggestion is made that would really bring our game(s) up to another level then we're definitely up for that.

We would ask that everyone please regard our earlier statements as professional courtesy, since that is what they are, as we are used to messages/feedback/reviews from sites such as Desura, Amazon, Green Man Gaming, Operation Rainfall, and so on and are still getting used to a more community-driven atmosphere where things are a bit more informal than what we're used to. We hope that our answers offer a bit more insight, and we look forward to speaking with you amerk, and anyone else with an inquiry or comment.

you say that, but so far what you've demonstrated is a habit of responding to all criticism with a dismissive, slightly backhanded boilerplate response wherein you thank the person for their 'opinion' and ironically wish them a nice day. you understand the contradiction here, right?

We duly apologize if that is the behavior you see of us, but we are simply being courteous and polite to all inquiries, positive or negative, praise or criticism they may be. Once we have released a demo, we are sure that more specific criticisms will be yielded and we will better be able to articulate our responses to those specific statements.

Again, we do sincerely hope you are having a great day, and we look forward to hearing yours and others' feedback and thoughts once we release a proper demo later this year.

chronicles of being really passive-aggressive in an attempt to avoid all possible criticism

Not at all. We look forward to receiving both positive and negative criticisms, as it can only help us become better game designers. We hope you and everyone else will take a look at the demo when it releases, and we wish you a great day and a wonderful Thanksgiving if you're celebrating that as well. :D

So here we are again... I was hoping the end of the era of emirpoen would be uneventful and quiet, but alas, it would seem I have been denied such a luxury. While I cannot exactly ignore this, my priorities dictate that I pass up the chance for drama.

tl;dr: I'm not dead yet and I'll be watching this.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts about the sequel! We'll likely have a full demo ready by the end of the year. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

BTW I think you typoed "Thunder Rum"

Thunerrum is actually based off of the French word for Thunder "tonnerre", that we edited obviously for game purposes.

I had a crummy day, can I ask for a refund?

Of course! Though we can't guarantee that you'll receive a Groundhog Day-type of scenario, so we'll just send our best wishes to you for a better day.

bad things happen when people say 'oh, that's just mawk's opinion', because what I say is usually true! if you find someone who tells you that those enemy portraits look good, they're either lying or can't see right.

Your opinion is once again noted, and will be taken under advisement. Have a great day!

Your opinion is noted mawk, though also note that these screenshots are not the actual resolution of the game, since these were uploaded at the resolution that Amazon requires.

Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode II War of The Abyss

It is not the audio compression that is the issue mawk, it is the amount of custom graphics and animation frames for them that is taking up the most space. We will try to trim it down of course before release.

Clyve, we would ask that you reserve your judgement until the free demo is posted. If you do not care for it still, then that is fine.

Our apologies on the resolution size and what not, it's due to the specifications that Amazon requires for screenshots on their site. We'll be uploading the traditional 544x416 screenshots in the near future.
