Nowadays, it seems like the easiest way to get a user title is to get yourself banne...

What was it kentona used to say? I think it was, "You do not choose a user title. A user title chooses you!"

*Edit: This was before confirmed donators to the site were able to change their own user names, of course.

BTW: Kentona you are my hero for banning Yuno.

I hate to admit it, but, I'm totally with you on this.

Replacing Leveling with Different Progression in Established Games

My favorite way of non-standard leveling was from Illusions of Gaia. In that game, you got a stat-upgrade whenever you cleared a room of monsters. Probably the best part is that, since monsters never repopulated, that was an additional reason to explore the room more fully, maybe even finding a treasure players would otherwise miss.

It seems that BoF avatars are popular now...

I, uh, was kinda thinking of switching to an Elly (from Xenogears) avatar. Once I start playing that game again. Which might be sooner than I think.

Brief return

I've been chipping away at this again. I'm mostly happy with how Castle Gojo has turned out, so I've decided to go back, and figure out the maps for the Askigagan-Gojan border. Saying that, I haven't actually written any of the NPC dialogs for any of these regions yet, nor have I came up with any bright ideas as to what manner of challenge would await the party in the Temple of the Spirit.

Thinking back a bit, the idea I had for Legacy Reborn was to do the trial of spirit the very last trial, and to finagle it in such a way that the task attributed to that the trial essentially be the rest of that game. I clearly don't have that option with this game, but, the trial of the spirit should, somehow, test one's character. One's morals, to be more precise.

...Which somehow brings to surface the possibility of making the events of Chance Encounter be cannon, (though, maybe, slightly revised)? I dunno.

As a somewhat aside, I seriously doubt that I'll use the dueling system I coded for the RPGology thread. Well, okay, there might be one or two places where I might be use it for this game, but, for the most part, I'm probably going to stick with the default engine because I am lame and/or lazy.

*Edit: Reading some of my previous blogs for this game, there was talk of being able to switch protagonists. Call me slow (or an idiot), but, maybe, doing that might assuage some of the fears I've been having about this game. Or, rather, my fears about having players understand/sympathize with Ryusaki.

*Edit2: I think I might want to switch perspectives to be where the dream-sequences are planned. Or, rather, be a part of them? It might be neat to segue the Oracle's dream as a memory that Ryusaki is having.

*Edit3: Actually, it would probably make my life easier to stave off writing anything for the Ryusaki perspective until the main perspective is done.

Darigaaz, I'm right back where I started, aren't I?

I try making games but I don't get past a couple of game pages, usually

Oh. But I told you last time.

I could almost swear that you said TFW stood for "that face when"?

*Edit: Reference!

Sup; greetings from a somewhat lurker? XD

Darigaaz, I need a new welcoming line.

The game players (and those who got to see the initial thread unfold) were the true winners.

The silly teams are the real winners anyway, so....

I try writing stories but I don't get past a couple of pages, usually.

The "Write off the Bat" threads that Liberty makes every once-and-again have served me as a platform for writing. The most recent version was sort of a flop, but, I doubt that's going to stop them from coming.

If nothing else, you can try making your own creative writing thread? I mean, they don't typically generate responses, and you can always use a hide-tag for everything if you're shy.

How do you decide what to do and in what order?

I tend to think of characters first, such as writing down a simple sentence that describes their personality. Story typically comes next, but, on very few occasions, it's gameplay ideas.

When I get to the story, I typically do a mess of typing in an RTF file. This particular file contains every single thing anybody says ever, and the consequences (if any) of choices that players would make. For example, a choice between purchasing items or weapons from an NPC. Perhaps not the kind of "consequences" one might think of in regards to gam-mak, but, it is the game reacting to a choice the player makes.

Sometimes, when I write a scene that involves a lot of character movement, I really want to see how the scene pans out. I usually do a test-run until I get to the event in question, and take notes about what needs to change. Though, I have been known to set the party's position closer to where the event takes place so that I don't have to play the game up to that point.

Very rarely, I have ideas that might be better off if it was done with scripts. In this case, regardless of whither it's a script I make, or one I download, I set up a separate project and go through various motions figuring out how I can use it at all to the game's advantage.

I know I shouldn't mention this, but I feel like I should just cancel my game Mystic Knights, because no one cares enough to tell me what they think of the story. I don't know what to do. Sorry if I am being rude, or offense. Just don't know what to do.

During my more depressive moments, I've thought this exact thing. That it is not worth it to even try. That it won't matter if the game gets finished, or I never touch it again. However, I also know there is a certain amount of joy that I take in knowing that I completed a thing. That doesn't make the act of completing the game any easier, or stop those thoughts from coming, but, reminding myself of that helps, sometimes.

Though, if I wish to be honest, I would certainly not mind seeing a bit of cheer from others. Or, rather, some indication that people are "listening". If that makes any sense.
