GANONFROG'S PROFILE

I make pixels, write, art unimpressively, and make lists if things that I do in relation to game making websites.

I've gotten a couple of requests from people wanting to see my old Final Tear 3 review, so I reuploaded it here:

PAYING JOB, Spriter needed (Charsets/Poses)

Hello, I'm a spriter, and I might be willing to consider your offer. I've had quite a bit of experience with spriting animation and am capable of working at a pretty quick speed.

I've previously done the sprite work for Vacant Sky, and otherwise do my own sprites in my own time. Here's a few examples of ones that are both animated and not:

I'm also capable of working with smaller sprites, so if you need examples for that, I'm willing to try to toss something together.

Any Pittsburgh PA (USA) people here?

Why, hello fellow Pittsburgher. Have you always lived here, or are you here for school?

Sharing the Suffering: the Final Tear

I wish my fellow soldiers good luck in this field of battle. May we all return in one piece.

Does anyone think this review is biased.

I'm a little confused about your complaint. I really didn't mention the length of the game as a flaw at any point, and spent pretty much all of the review listing off several reasons why I was unable to keep playing past five hours. I'm normally completely up for playing through long games, but in this case, I couldn't make myself keep going because the gameplay was extremely broken. You may be able to boast a different experience, who knows, I could have run into bugs that you didn't, but as it was, I found it borderline unplayable.

Let me reword this. A game can be long and have a weak beginning. This is fairly common. However, when this happens, it can still convince people to keep going by showing potential to get better. For example, Xenosaga is an extremely long series of games that start off rather weakly. The gameplay in the first game is disappointing, at best, and the story starts out as a relatively boring series of random events happening to a bunch of seemingly uninteresting characters. Yet, despite this, the games are still considered some of the best JRPGs out there. How did people become convinced to keep playing these games? By the fact that the games still build up to something, and do so in an interesting setting, while using rather high production values. It starts off slow, but makes you want to get past the weak points to get to what you know is going to be an awesome payoff.

Final Tear doesn't even begin to do this. It has no intrigue, it doesn't have a good setting, and it most definitely lacks production values. Nothing about the game convinced me that playing for more than I had to could be worth it.

On the subject of bias, I'm not even sure how I could be any more biased than anyone else on the site. I'd never even heard of the game until I was randomly linked to it at one point. The only reason I was driven to play and review it was because of the weird dissonance between the score and the screenshot/overview quality. I was curious to see if it lived up to it's high rating. Once I noticed that it didn't, I felt a review was in order. That's pretty much all there was to it.

In fact, I was kind of intrigued by the length, originally. I thought it was cool that someone was willing to put so much time into their work.

I apologize for my disappearance. I was out of town for a while, and when I got back, I immediately proceeded to catch two different flus that kind of left me unwilling to write much of anything until I got better. I'm back in action now, though, and I should be able to get back to these reviews pretty soon.

So it's 200 years before the events of the game.
that

that seems pretty self-explanatory

I'm sorry, then. I just misunderstood his context.

2011 - 200 = 1811?

Uh, you do realize that this game tkaes place were KNIGHTS, and WIZARDS apparently existed? Please don't troll.

So it's 200 years before the events of the game. That seems like something that may need to be made a bit more clear, but that's beside the point.

*Raises hands* My original suspicion seems to be true, so I'm just going to step back, and watch this from the stands.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

I should probably stay out of this, especially since there's a good chance this guy is a troll, but...

Revtor Town was made 200 years ago during ancient times. There was a war between the Dark Forces and The Soldiers of light. The fight was over who would control a mystical item called the Wind Relic. An item with massive powers.

After Decades of fighting, A warrior named Marco with the help of the 7 legendary sages sealed the remaining dark forces on an island. The town of Revtor was in ruins. To protect Revtor from other threats, the town was remade with stone with a waterway under the town so that enemies would not be able to infect/Destroy the towns resorces. The idea to build the town with stone, was so the city would survive the greatest disasters so that the King of the city (At the time) Could Guard one of the Wind Relics.

Current year: 2011
2011 - 200 = 1811

1811. The industrial era sure is ancient.

Also, I'm not entirely sure where architecture made of stone for the sake of keeping away disasters translates to "No stone ever, for anything!" I'm pretty sure the material of things like boxes is completely unrelated to the city's ability to withstand natural disasters.

Also, by that logic, these poor souls are sleeping on stone beds.

Yeah I didn't see his message about Act 1+ until I was halfway through the second Act, unfortunately. I did mention it at the beginning of my review though, and so people can take that portion of it with a grain of salt. I split it up by each act individually anyway (but will submit it as one whole review), so Sai can easily find his way to the feedback points that he can use. It's become quite apparent that once the complete Volume one is complete and all the Act III features have been applied throughout, it'll be a much stronger game.

Alright. That sounds fine, then. It's nice to see you putting in so much effort there. Thank you. Both for this and for the compliment, earlier.

Yeah that would be fine, and I appreciate it! Any sort of feedback will let me know what the strengths of the game were, the weaknesses, and what you'd (or a potential player) would like to see.

Can do.

I've just submitted my review for Castle Chase, so expect to see it up in the next couple of days. Next up is Nightmare in Sunnydale, and Dream Odyssey has been added to the queue.

Alright, since I have quite a bit of a list right now, I'll add those two when I free up the space. I'll probably still get to them at some point, though.

Good to see someone doing this again. I took a break from anything site productive for about a month but I'm back to writing a couple reviews atm (including one HUGE one for our MISAO winner).

Oh man, I really hope you got Act I+ for that review. The current one is a steaming pile of crap, and the new version is complete enough to be played now. Did you ask Sailerius about it? I guess it might be too late if you already started, but hey. XD I figured I'd ask.
