WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

A whole lot of that list is just "good game design" and "good writing" to be honest

Key Item Rule
Never discard, sell, or otherwise remove permamently from your possession any items you begin the game with or acquire within the first town. This is especially true for items that seem to have no practical use, because of...
The Law of Inverse Practicality (Key Item Corollary)
Any item that you can acquire will have some sort of purpose. Those that seem to be useless and have no practical value at all, always tend to have great power later on. The earlier you get the item, the later in the game it will be used. The longer the span of time between acquisition and use, the more powerful the item is.
Gilligan's Prescription
Any character who has amnesia will be cured before the end of the game. They usually won't like what they find out about themselves, though.

what idiot came up with this shit
At least two of them are just excerpts from the plot of Final Fantasy 7:

Clockwork Universe Rule
No matter how hard you try to stop it, that comet or meteor will always hit the earth.

In Your Face, Jesus!
Even if you manage to deal with him that time, you're not done -- the villain will then transform into his final form, which is always an angelic winged figure with background music remixed for ecstatic chorus and pipe organ.

It's been too long since I last doodled something that wasn't plans for my games. Can you tell?

On paper

On tablet

EDIT: In literally a minute, it all came flooding back to me when I grabbed an hexagonal No.2 pencil and a notebook. I'm never going to use decorative round pencils again; that was awful.

To be fair the first one also happened in Star Ocean 2. And the second one also happened in FF6, FF9, FF12, FF13, FF Tactics, at least one of the Kingdom Hearts games, The World Ends With You, and basically everything Tetsuya Nomura has ever touched.

I'm extremely sad when this doesn't happen.

Yeah, same. :<

As for the key item on start thing - ugh, no. Sell that shit off unless it's story-relevant (or do a Lufia II and let them sell it off but have a town where everything you sell can be bought back. Just imagine! You sold the magical McGuffin, not realising just how important it was to the plot. When you finally learn of its importance you are hitting yourself in the head and stressing out - "Did I break the game? What the hell!" - but suddenly you remember! There's that town where everything I sold can be bought back! Rush to the town only to find out someone else has bought the McGuffin. OH NO! Badguy got his/her hands on the necessary item to raise their power level to over 9000!(!!!!!) Time to try and get it back!)

Actually, taking this list and twisting it on its head is a really good idea for a more unique game. I love using tropes and the like and just twisting them a little. Fun fun fun~

OMG, how do you people remember all that crap??
I understand some people really enjoy a game well enough to remember
a few things about it.....but LockeZ must live in a "gaming world" to be
able to remember all those games on the contents :)
I'd be more impressed if someone had the patience to sit through more obscure below average bargain bin RPGs like Legaia or Evergrace and know every trivia/trope by heart.

That's basically the initial reaction everyone has but I wonder how many things would line up if someone who never played/watched/read an RPG before decided to make an rpgmaker game. Does anyone know?

I am the administrator of the Unofficial Squaresoft MUD, an online multiplayer fangame based on extremely accurate recreations of Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and several Final Fantasy games. That is my main game design project and also a big chunk of my social life, and I am connected to it on either my computer or my phone pretty much every waking hour of every day.

They say if you spend nine thousand hours on something you are considered an expert. If so, then to call me an expert on Final Fantasy would be an incredible understatement. I think I am probably an expert on FF Tactics's job system.

I was watching a streamer on Twitch.tv play a hardmode hack of FF6 yesterday, and I was in the chat, along with the person who created the hack. There were a few conversations like this:

Player: Bio Blast is really good. I remember it being bad.
Designer: Well, their HP is several times higher than the original game, so yeah, poison is gonna be really good.
Player: Oh, that makes sense. I wonder how often it ticks.
Designer: It only has to tick twice on average to be better than Autocrossbow, I changed the balance of a lot of skills.
LockeZ: Poison ticks every 17 seconds, on the default battle speed.
Designer: There! Useful information! I guess. Maybe.
Player: I did turn the battle speed up.
LockeZ: I can't remember how many global increments there are per second on each battle speed. I'm a failure.
Designer: Wait, didn't you just look poison ticks up?
LockeZ: No.
Designer: You just randomly knew it was 17 seconds?
LockeZ: Do not underestimate me.

Designer: Locke! We need your FF6 lore.
LockeZ: What? I wasn't listening. Sorry.
Designer: Do you get to open the menu again after defeating TunnelArmr or does the scenario just end?
LockeZ: Oh, it just ends.
Player: Dammit. That means I have to remove the RunningShoes before the fight if I want to use them with Sabin.
LockeZ: Let him wear the Genji Glove at least. No one in Sabin's scenario needs it. They all deal damage with skills, except for Gau, who can't use weapons.
Player: Oh, yeah. Don't you get a black belt there though? So your normal attacks do kinda matter.
LockeZ: Yeah, but TunnelArmr randomly kills you at low HP. You want the extra damage.
Player: I wondered why I died last time.

First a co-pilot crashes a plane into a mountain killing 150, now a plane hard lands in Halifax. I would shit my pants right off my body. Like the deer in Castle Crashers.
Scary.
Edit: speaking of which, that co-pilot who crashed the plane wanted to be known. I think the best thing we can do is forget his name as soon as possible. I'm seriously sick and angry about his action. If you don't want to live, swallow a bottle of pills. Don't kill a big group of innocent people. :(
Yeah the halifax thing was crazy. The pictures of the crash looked more devastating than I thought it'd be. Good thing no one died.
Instead, remember the name of the captain who tried his damnedest! To Captain Patrick Sondheimer, a real hero!
