Regrets and Desires

*peeks head in to check no-one is around, then sneaks in*

Wow... it feels almost alien for me to sit down and write another blog (No. 198 as of writing). Not to mention the last blog for this game was written more than two years ago. And because Icebound is still pending, I'll probably just write the blog here.

So you'd probably be asking me why I'm writing another piece for a game that was completed in November 2014?

Well, thing is... The commercial evil is calling out to me. Like most hobbyists, I do dream about making a full-time living out of doing something I love so I can quit my dreary, soul-sucking 8-5 job.

It can seriously stifle the creative spirit and probably one of the reasons why my game-dev passion just vanished a few years ago. But now, having reached the ripe old age of 30 and forever leaving my twenties behind, I figured that:

1) I can't take life too seriously (most of my games have been pretty serious)
2) Let go of past grudges and
3) It is about high-time I decided to make the life I want to live and not be slave to a dreary job where getting a double bonus at the end of the year makes it bearable (it isn't).

I've also decided to buck-up on my art skills so that when I do go commercial one day, I can at least save myself a few hundred bucks by not hiring an artist. zero-project's (my music-muse) music is free for all commercial work, so that's one less problem to worry about.

Hello Laine, my old friend.

I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed at trying to familiarise myself with MV. The engine has enormous potential, but all these plug-ins... Yanfly is seriously on a roll. To someone who has been using VX since late 2010-early 2011, to me it feels like the equivalent of going from paddling around in a baby pool, to diving off the 10-metre springboard. But I know it will pay off in the long-term. But I'll probably end up making a few short games in MV before taking this huge step.

It's exciting, but also terrifying at the same time. I need to let go of my innermost fears and just release all that pent-up creative energy. What is my innermost fears, you ask?

Well...

It is the fear of failure. Also, the fear of letting down people who expect great things from you, who expect you to be at the top of your game no matter what. But worst of all, for me at least, is when someone (whether in real life or on the internet) expresses immense disappointment in you. That... has always struck me hard and always sits like a lead balloon in my chest.

As to what happened about a year-and a half ago...

I regret it, and bitterly. I lost a few good friends that day, and I still it to this day. Every time I thought about RMN during my hiatus, that was the first incident I thought of. But I guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

So, here's to a better and more productive 2018! No more fears, no more past regrets, and no more looking back.

This is Luchi, who is now officially back from the dead, signing out.
Blog No. 198 written.

Also, the blog title is totally not a reference to an episode in Granblue.

@Growly: You mean the AP points? You get one point per level, so be careful how you distribute those stats, since you can't reassign them. Personally, I tend to balance Laine out with HP/MP/ATK/SPD and buff Pat's DEF and SPD in the beginning.
SPD should be a priority for Cil/Siggy as well ( because the late-game bosses are fast ).
Thanks for reply.
I might have a problem then... But hey, I got a super fast Laine.
where is 1.3, Yuna? I see I and II above plus the patch.....does 1.3 need the patch?
No, version 1.3 is the old version of the game. The new download requires it ( Vol I + II ).
Hi, I got another bug with the bar (this is after the latest patch), after I finished the ogham village, I was stuck where the bar's owner says "You are in a hurry" or smthng like that (after which I was transported to in front of Laine's mentor grave) and then when I tried to enter the bar again, the bar's owner would say the same thing, and then my char went invisible and I couldn't do anything.

Ok now I've heard of trying to artificially buzz a game but that's ridiculous.

Yes, yes I know we're being POM'd again I suppose, hence the slow site and multiple posting events.
^ lol, nothing like POM. That game got like 10,000 DLs in one hour. And...

*incoming rant, which I rarely do*

*facepalm* Can't believe some people are reporting problems from Vol ONE over at RMW only now ( the 0 koruna Elixirs for sale, which are non-existent in the new release ). Seriously... can you say delayed? It's going to confuse everyone, for crying out loud! The game gets ignored for months ( like one post in every couple of months, I kid you not ), I release a new version and suddenly everyone jumps on the bandwagon again. I told them I'm no longer active over there.
And to make matters worse, I can't even bloody sign in over there anymore. I changed my e-mail and did everything it asked of me, but still gives me that Resend Validation notice. That's the last straw. I'm done with that site.

*end rant*

Want me to go over and say something? I'm pretty sure I've still got an account there. I'll just point out they are talking about the old version and there is a new completed release that continues the story. Though that will mean pointing them here and they'll read the rant, so your call, :).
Yes, I do know they're talking about the old release. XD ( but I just wanted to rant a bit; I was in a foul mood earlier on ).

Btw, how far are you guys into the game? Any more nasty bugs that need to be squashed? ( I'm quite sure there's more ).

Lol, idiots.

Yeah, I’m currently about two hours in. I’m replaying it from the start again, even though I’m scared shitless about going through that whole Eos Shrine again and I haven’t found anything extremely noteworthy other than what everyone else has already reported already. I’m currently taking a break off playing it until I finish playing and reviewing Super Smash Bros. Crusade and working a little bit on my own project. I definitely wanna finish it for sure, but, of course, certain priorities come first, and it also doesn’t help that the NHL season is about to start and that’s going to consume most of my free time when I get home.

But don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this. I mean, I've invested so much time into this that I have to see it through. :)

There's a serious problem with this game.

The music is so pretty on some maps that I can't leave.

This is why I just copy/paste the audio folder into an empty project and listen to the music while I'm working on writing and stuff. >w>

...seriously I do this with the music to my own game and it's a great way to get in the mood for writing, hehehe~
Guess the 170mb worth of Audio is worth it, eh? XD

Here's some general game tips:

Prioritise Laine and co's SPD stat over everything else. Then ATK, DEF and HP. Though it does help to raise Laine's MAG in the long run.

You can nab your first Vanguard Shield after defeating the bandits in the Raider Cave. This shield is the best one in the entire game ( +10 to ATK, DEF & doubles EXP gain ). Otherwise, save 8 Golden Doubloons and buy it in Camhaill or fork out a whopping 10,000 koruna to the hidden merchant in McGregor.

If you helped Clannad, she'll give you three Fire bombs. This will allow you to go to Lidgetton ( and several other areas ) earlier than usual. And you can pick up the amazing Life Ring in Varva as well ( gives the Mercy skill, which heals all allies for a decent amount of HP ). This will help out a LOT when going through the harder areas in the game ( Eos Shrine in Vol I, Enelys Tower in Vol II ).

Abuse Cillian's amazing Rally Guard skill. It will save your hide more times than you can care to remember.

There is a dirt cheap way to beat Anook; the second boss in the Eos shrine, after he shifts elements. Ilian Spear + Expose + Ice Weaken + Any ice attack, and its defeated before you can say 'Anook switched elemental affinities!' I kicked its arse at Level 14, after all. XD

And speaking of the Eos Shrine ( Addit, listen up XD ), abuse that Tellan spell.
Like, abuse it. Those elemental fiends won't know what hit them.

Quick bit of critique (I'm not far into it yet): In your future games, it would be nice to have some indicator of where you need to go. I'm in the village to the south of Landen now and it took me a fair amount of time to find the elder's house because I couldn't figure out which one it was. There have been a few times now when I've struggled to find the right building, such as the church (I kept scouring the temple in vain) and the pub.

EDIT: Okay, I think I'm stuck in the forest at night. All of the enemies here can kill Pat in one hit and Laine in 2-3. Is there some trick to beating them?

EDIT 2: Another bit of critique. I really, really, really wish party members who get KOed got EXP from encounters because otherwise when you have someone who needs to be levelled up (e.g., Pat) it makes it even harder to catch them up because they're already predisposed to being KOed in battle.
Use Laine's Edged Slicer/Lethal Edge and Pat's Helios spell on the Beezlebubs. Pat can also instantly KO those Fungi with his Donar spells. It also helps to buff Pat's HP and DEF with those AP points. There's a healing crystal located in the second area as well.
