The video games industry has become too much of an industry, it's been stifled by its own success. It's afraid of new ideas that don't come in the form of hardware advancements, and it's no wonder. Development costs have never been higher, and audiences have never been more generalized. Everybody should have seen this coming though, companies exist to maximize profits and minimize risks. When the risks outweigh the potential benefits things start to stagnate. That, friends, is the price of mainstream success.


p.s. if you dig long and hard enough you will still find good indie and mainstream games. I understand the sentiment though, games used to fill people with a sense of wonder. Maybe they still do, it's just that some of us have become a lot more cynical.

I know people are eating up Axiom Verge, for example, but I just see literal metroid plagiarism and roll my eyes

Kombosabo, do you know about the cloud? Next time, keep your stuff backed up by OneDrive, Google, or Dropbox and save yourself the pain of your own hardware failing, subsequently swallowing your hopes and dreams.

Gonna have to also say Unity owns. If you're set on making an RPG though, you might wanna either change your mind on that or stick with RM. You're not going to make an RPG in Unity off the bat.

Unity's gonna serve you more in developing your skills in your major. Nobody impresses DigiPen with an RPG Maker 2000 game on 5 floppy disks. Well, unless your name is BadLuck..

Just because we're centered around game design doesn't mean that we can't discuss some real shit from time to time. We're all adults here, we can handle it.

If you can flip out over this you can flip out over the boy too. I demand that if this woman gets justice than that elementary school boy gets exactly the same justice as well.

I am not sure if you are aware, but social justice isn't interested in defending anything but marginalized peoples. There aren't any talking points, no multiple angles, and feels all around. Unfortunately, everybody else can get thrown under a freakin' bus.

In spite of the facts and the story, this isn't really a cause that should exactly be controversial to support. Sign the petition or don't, but if you continue pursuing this you are opening a massive can of worms on sensitive social issues that probably aren't appropriate to tackle here. This is a games making community for (mostly) all ages. Can't we just agree rape is bad and then focus on making/playing good games? I like that a lot more. I hope you do too.
