[RMVX] MAKING A SPRITE FADE RATHER THAN JUST DISAPPEAR?

So, in the common cutscene where someone kills another, how do you make the sprite fade away instead of just disappearing altogether with the change sprite graphic command?
If I want something to fade away, I usually use the "Set Move Route" command and then multiple change opacity commands with wait in-between. You can say decrease the opacity with 20, then wait 5 frames, then decrease opacity with 20 again and so on.

I was going to answer this but Crystalgate beat me to it, and he's exactly right.
You might get a smoother effect making a battle animation for it.
