This is a good summary of my feelings about modern Paper Mario, and even about Thousand Year Door in a lot of areas.
I've been waiting for 16 years for another good Paper Mario game. 16 years. It's so aggravating to see them constantly shit on fucking everything that was ever good about the series with dumb goddamn gimmicks and stripped down, water-logged "features".
Maybe Nintendo should hire some new game designers, instead of relying on the guys who are almost fucking dead by this point. (Not that I don't have respect for them- I do.)
What I find odd is that Miyamoto was the producer for just about every Paper Mario game, yet for some reason the creative freedom and actual RPG mechanics don't sit with him nowadays? Even the Mario & Luigi series is starting to suffer from this rigidness.

I'm under the impression that the way Mario is now is how Miyamoto intended for the series to be all along. Miyamoto has a thing against stories in Mario games, and has a firm stance that Mario characters are actors on a stage.
Honestly, I imagine that Gamecube-era Mario games are among his least favorite, because TTYD, Sunshine, and Superstar Saga were all very daring compared to what came before and what came after. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say he reined the franchise back in shortly after that.

I read the comments on that article and it so closely resembles Star Wars it's sickening. It legit sounds like the fans want to run the person who made the whole thing possible out of their precious "games".
Newsflash, shitheads, top dog can do whatever the hell top dog wants. Mario was always secretly two Goombas stacked on top of each other in overalls with the disembodied head of the last human that dared to tussle with the order of the Mushroom Kingdom posed on top? So speaketh the Lord, so must it be.
Otherwise there seems to be a bell curve based on how long someone's devoted their efforts towards a thing. If they've just gotten started, no one will listen. If they've become a sort of sage on the topic, no one will listen. It's sad really, because I know I personally think about stuff for a while and will come back to such things later and have more to bounce around and refine the original idea until I've found a greater stride toward perfecting it. This is what inquisitive minds should instinctively do.
It's sad to think that the pursuit of challenging a held belief might eventually lead to a self-defeating state that no one would bother to try and find reason with.

I certainly don't mean to cast Miyamoto in a bad light, since he's one of my heroes. I just think that given his ideas towards it, he shouldn't have remained in charge of/such a driving force behind the Paper Mario series for so long.
His influence on the mothership Mario games however can't be questioned. Super Mario 3D World is a fucking fantastic game, and probably my favourite 3D Mario title. He definitely knows what he's doing in terms of the main series.

I only wanted to watch one episode, and i did, i didn't want my youtube reccommendations to turn into a gallery of variety in fairly oddparent's-themed videos just because of that single video, but that's what i get for making the mistake of watching the episode on the official, youtube-sponsored channel.
