EDIT: Actually I'm a bit more conflicted now that I realise there are a hell of a lot of PS2 games I'd like to play.
I also want to play games that are on both consoles. :{

I've got one of the backwards compatible ps3's off craiglist for $150 with 4 games and 2 controllers :)
There are PS3's that aren't backwards compatible...?
author=Yellow Magicyep. At least with PS2 games.

In terms of backwards compatibility there are three generations of PS3s. The first gen when it first came out had all of the PS2 hardware built into the PS3 so games could run natively. Thanks to the $600 price tag and/or poor sales and to reduce construction expenses part of the PS2 hardware was stripped out (the Emotion Engine? Or everything but the EE was removed?) so the PS3 had some native support and emulated other hardware components of the PS2 which did affect compatibility. I'm not sure how much though, it might've been like the PS2's backwards compatibility with PS1 games which was pretty good except for a handful of games. Then because of the same reasons why it was partially removed and probably the lack of a selling point at the time of the PS3's life cycle all the hardware was removed and PS2 support was dropped completely. You're stuck buying a PS2 wherever they are still sold or emulating the PS2 via PCSX2.
Also of note is the new Wiis also dropped Gamecube backwards compatibility. >:(
(on another note my wireless keyboard and mouse receiver died so I had to go get a replacement. The mouse is smaller than I'd like but the keyboard is a dream!)
Ah man, that bites. Thanks for the info GRS.

Now I need to add a snowman character to the name entry screen. And any other cool characters I can find.

I wish I still had by original PS3 that has PS2 support. While I do miss playing some of my PS2 games on it, the thing I miss the most is the four USB ports. I used to charge both of my controllers at once while having an external hard drive plugged into the third slot. With the slim PS3 there are only two ports. It sucks.

WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- ?
Yeah, I'm pissed over that too. I hope my Wii doesn't break again because I gave away my gamecube because of backwards compatibility. There's Dolphin to emulate the Gamecube (and Wii) but that isn't going to help my saves and then there's compatibility issues.

How do you play Rock Band??
Looping this over and over and over while working.
Also, I'm thinking about how I'm taking Chinese this semester.
Thinking about how I just ruined the book I was reading(The Green Mile) by watching the movie.
Also, looping that song over and over while working must really make everything you do feel epic.

I was ready to give up on pursuing (her name here) romantically, and was actually dialing a number I somehow managed to extract from another girl when the phone buzzed in my hand with an incoming text.
Well, about eighteen texts later, I had asked her out again for the first time in three years. I knew it was a mistake as soon as the damn thing was sent. Naturally, this shut down all further conversation. Not only was it incredibly insensitive considering external factors (since it puts other things I have been doing in a light they were not intended, and potentially takes something away that was actually helping her), but it was clearly unwanted.
Maybe this is what it takes for me to finally get the f_cking hint.
