Proto-calculus was invented in Greece around the 3rd-5th century, before it was simply lost to neglect and erasure during the dark ages. (so much focus was put on copying religious texts and latin, that these greek works were ignored and decayed/not transcribed for preservation. It wasn't like it was an active destruction of knowledge)
