MAKING FIRST RPG (GOOD STORY PLANNED)

I need help creating my first RPG. I am creating it using RPG Maker 2000.

My storyline needs a little help too. I will just give the gist of it.

"A planet discovered. People sent to populate, each month materials are sent. Earth says it's too expensive, slowly stops. People on new planet have to live alone. War breaks out. Group seperates into two sides and fights to gain control of the world."

This was based off an forum roleplay I've seen, but hey, who cares.

I typed that a little rushed but that's the gist of it like I said. I need help with this because I' m not great at any of this and I'll learn as I go though. I wouldn't mind some help with the plot and some modern-futuristic and mideval sprites.

I'm thinking of having the plot go like this:

One side technical, other side primitive weapons, strengnth and magic.

One side fighting to control the planet, other side trying to promote peace.

One side fighting to control the planet for evil, other side trying to control the planet for peace.

And this takes place hundreds of years after the discovery where the planet has a population similar to that of a city.

--- Questions --

I have some questions.

1. I want to start the game with my character not there. Like a little cutscene.

2. When I have an 'event' automatically say something, it just loops. How do I end it?
It's funny because the basis of your plot is similar to mine as far
as the war and division of technology goes. I'd say your two
opposing sides need more incentive for their wanting to win
the war than just "WORLD DOMINATION!!!" Not that it wouldn't
play as an integral part of their wanting to win. You need
points in your plot that'll grab the attention of the player.

1. I want to start the game with my character not there. Like a little cutscene.
Have the starting party empty.

If RM2k gives you a Game Over screen (because you have nobody in your party), just set the character's graphic to be completely transparent (basically an empty character set). Remember to give the character a walking graphic (first tab, second column, around the middle) or to change the party to characters with walking graphics when you're done.

2. When I have an 'event' automatically say something, it just loops. How do I end it?
There's a few ways:
1) Teleport the player to a different map. When the event ends, since the player is on a different map it won't loop again.

2) Third tab, second column, about 3/4ths of the way down there should be an 'Erase Event' command which removes the event until you go back to that map. If you ever go back to the same map as the event, this won't work (and neither will option 1)

3) Use a switch. Turn on a switch at the end of the event (first tab, first column, around 1/4 of the way from the top) and give the event a new page. Set its condition to when the switch is on (around the eupper left corner). Best to play around with this stuff since you'll need to learn it for... a lot of things.
