So, I had this idea.

I realised a little while ago that you can copy battle animations between rpgmaker projects by copying them, closing the project and opening the new project and pasting them in. This is quite laborious, but totally worth it seeing as good original battle animations are one of the most difficult and time consuming things to make.

But, rather than just downloading some massive game with loads of animations, *coughherosrealmcough*, copying over the 'Battle' and 'Sound' folders and then pilfering all the battle animations like a sneaky thief, I thought people might like to swap some original animations.

Unfortunately, most of the original animations I have made involve character sprites which are specific to my game and so not much use to anybody else. However, I do have SOME original animations that I have made, so I'm going to be putting them in a blank project folder zipped up in my locker and adding to it over time. You can find that here:

There's just one in there right now, a spooky speaking skull that I'm quite proud of which I use as a 'Silence' spell. You need to transfer the 'Battle' set and the 'Sound' too. I'll also add in any that people post here.

I've done this for 2k3 but I imagine it could work for the other makers too, certainly 2k and poss XP/VX/Ace. Let us know!

Otherwise, I think it is a really great idea. Should be done more often.

Using the program MEX it would be possible to share single animations (without sharing the whole database).

This little tool was originally made to share RMXP/VX clipboard data (events, maps, etc.) on the internet as text. It can, however, be used to share ANY kind of clipboard data (also RM2k/2k3 animations
):

First, copy the animation to the clipboard.
Then, open MEX and choose "English" as language (bottom left choice field).
Then, click Special -> Own DataString
It should now show "Format582" in the text field, this is the identifier for animation data. Click OK.
Now, click "Read". You can now use Text -> Copy to copy the data in text form and paste it on the forum.

For example, this is the default "Punch A" animation of RM2k3:

(Unfortunately, the forum doesn't break this line at all... So you better select the whole line by clicking at the left side of it and dragging one line down.)

For pasting this data into the RPG Maker, you need to start MEX, choose English and click Special -> Own DataString again. Now, you have to enter "Format582" manually, copy the data from the forum and use Text -> Paste. Then click "Write". And now, paste the animation in the RPG Maker.

As said earlier, this works with all kinds of clipboard data. The "Own DataString" will be different for different kinds of data, though.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I don't really need any battle animations at this point, but if you're putting together a collection feel free to download Vindication and add any animations you want from it. A lot of them are RTP and a lot of them are shitty and a lot of them are created from downloaded resources. Also they are about as disorganized as they could possibly be in the animations tab. Off hand I think the FF style summons and the blue magic spells are probably the most likely to be useful to people.

I think actually putting together a collection of these would be kind of great. A lot of sites have battle animation resources for RPG Maker, but it's always just image sheets that you have to assemble, never fully made animations. I'd like to see this done for XP and VX too.

Anyone else want to donate their game's animations? I guess I could just go around pilfering, but that seems a bit rude...

Yes, you can open multiple windows of XP/VX/Ace and copy the entire database in one swell foop. You don't even need a patch! It just works!
