HIYA, SO MANY NOOB QUESTIONS
Posts
Hi to all in RMN,
Wow it's been a while and I dont remember if this is the same site but this is on the top of the google search. I remembered a while back that the engine had two characters in front of it but its a faded memory. Last thing I downloaded to check out was this Resident Evil RPG but again I dont remember if this is the same site.
Any ways, I am currently working on a project but its not an RPG though after I finish these two characters I wanted to see what path to take and doing an RPG would be great.
I do have a story pretty much written out and almost all concept art done for it and yes I am a semi pixel artist but I need to know whats the highest resolution I can make the characters to be. I normally do HR and HD sprites and anything lower I would need some major practice.

Its fine. Its just like Mugen all over again. Ill be patient with awaited answers. and I have gone through the threads but im not going to go their countless of threads just to end up not finding anything.
I'm not too sure about that game you want to find, as there isn't much to go on outside of having "two characters in the front". Whatever that means!
As for a Resident Evil RPG, the first thing that came to my mind was this game, but I suppose it could be any one of these games, couldn't it?

No no no, I wasnt looking for a game. I was just saying that I had a faded memory to the site I went to a long time ago that was a RPG maker. Either way im new here lol by saying that what is it that I need to get started and a feel of things.
But what I wanted to know was, whats the max size of pixels I can work with when it comes to the ingame characters and such.
wow looking at that link you just gave me that one looks way better than the one I remembered.

I think it depends on the maker? I know the size for XP sprites is different from that of VX and Ace. I definitely know a single VX and/or Ace character takes up 96X128. As for 2K and 2K3, I don't even know what the size for those are anymore.

That was unexpectedly, and quite randomly, cool!
Reason why I ask is because I normally just work with HR sprites
So scaling down is going to be getting use to. Wish I was as good as AbyssWolf.

wow. that is a great animation.
I think by default character sprites in VX Ace are 32x32 pixels, and in 2k/3 it's 16x16.

Man that is very small (>_>) is that just for walking around the world or in battle as well? You know, like FF7 where you walk around as a chibi character then in battle you see their full version.
Can anyone care to post up here the smallest to biggest in sprites?
And thanks. I didnt want to show the animation because well thats for a fighting engine and doesnt count lol I didnt want to come off to people like im showing off or anything like that.

Well, the default battle engine doesn't even have character sprites, but monster sprites have a much higher limit. You would have to search for a custom battle engine script with sideview mode, or custom battlers. The screen resolution (by default) is 544x416 iirc.
For Rm2k3, the battle characters are... 96x96 I think...maybe 48x48. It's been a while.

they're 96x96 when using battle animation based characters, which you want to use anyway.
rm2k3 doubles its size by default but characters can be quite large compared to the screen in the 96x96 size.

author=fjamesfernandezRmn endorses showing off. I think. Something like that anyway.

You can show off as much as you'd like, as long as you do it in the right place. Though, the people around here won't hold back if they see something wrong with your work. Just keep in mind they want to help you and it'll be all good.

So is there no code that if you wanted to do a larger scaled sprite that when its in game it would shrink it down but keep the quality of it?

I just want to look at that animation for hours.

nope, well... there's photoshop or w/e lol but the thing about spriting is that when you scale something down you don't get the exact pixels that made it what it is. The computer doesn't know how to keep the character's "look" So you're better off preserving the size and going with rpg maker vx ace or whatever or just idk make brand new sprites tailored to the small res.
I dont think its the PC. Its all about the engine. In Mugen I can mix my HR or HD sprites with low res to chicbi characters without messing up the pixels. Like the example here
Before ingame

ingame

You can see the difference in pixels with that Goku and my character.
