[HELP] HELP WITH ATTACK SKILL

The original attack skill for RPG Maker VX Ace is causing my character to attack the enemy 3 times, instead of once. I the repeat option set to "1". I have no clue whats causing this.

It could still be using the three-hits targeting option, if you ever changed it? Try copy-and-pasting the skill from an untouched project back into your game.

I just tried it, now its hitting 7 times.

Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but is your Attack command skill #1?
Yes and Yes. I didnt change anything for the first 2 skills attack and guard.

What about equipment? Any number of hit bonuses on the weapon, or anywhere else?
Well I feel stupid. Its possible that my character is attacking multiple times cause he is dual wield Cestus. But I don't understand why it's dealing damage 3 times. Shouldn't it only deal damage twice?

I tested it out with another character wielding a spear. He only attacked once.
You may have a trait on the class or actor in the database which is making them attack more than once.
As far as I can tell I don't. ughh this is annoying, I'm having a hard enough time as it is balancing the battles. lol
xD, I find balancing battles in Ace amazing, but the various new scripts they have allow me to pretty much dissect the whole battle system in question which in turn makes me go through every possibility, thus I brain-lock myself.

If you'd gone through nearly everything possible, the only advice I could give you is to start a clean project and convert your things over one by one. I mean, if you haven't even added a single script yet, or even touched one for that matter, maybe RPG Maker is just acting up. Or you may be over-looking something minor like a battle event or something like that.
Ok, I started a new project, and the attack skill is hitting several times again. This is what I did.


I changed the first actor Erics class from Soldier to Monk, changed the monks Slot Type to Dual Wield. Equipped him with 2 Cestus.

That's all I did, before I did that attack was hitting one time.

Dual wield will cause the attack animation to repeat twice. That might be it?
Ok, I dropped dual wield, put it back to what it was. He is still attacking 3 times.

I changed the weapon skill of the monk from claw to hand axe, and tested a battle, he is only attacking 1 time. So it appeaser to be something with the claw weapon. I looked under it, and all the claw weapons have this

ATK Element
Ex-Parameter + 4%
Atk Times+ 1
Seal Equip

Is the atk times+ 1 whats causing the claw weapons to attack 2 times, or 3 times if dual wielding?

The "Atk times +1" parameter on the weapon might be exactly what's causing the character to attack three times. Especially if the character is duel-wielding at least one weapon that has this property.

*Edit: The intuitive guess is that a character duel-wielding weapons, both of which have the "Atk times +1" parameter, would be that the character would attack four times. But this is something I would have to research to say with any amount of definitiveness.
That's your problem right there. Atk times +1means, you will always do (x) + 1 attacks. So you will always attack for an amount of times, and then that trait would add one more attack.

You have 2 claws which means they probably don't stack on top of each other if you have two +1 attack traits.

You're dual-wielding claws, which means you're attacking 2 times, + 1 time more because of the trait. By the looks of it. You either have clashing "Attack times +1" traits on weapons, or you have one claw with the Atk times +1, and one without, thus meaning you will attack twice + 1.
Yup thats the problem. I took the atk times+ 1 off, now he is attacking once. Now I can get back to trying to balance damage and stuff.
