~ CLOSAT ~
L is for Location
What is this?L is for Location
This is the start of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.
This second episode will focus on location creation.
But what is a CLOSAT?
It's a culmination of a group of different things that combine to create a story. This will be something of an experiment, actually.
Yes, but what-?
It's a surprise. You'll find out at the end, okay? ^.~
Fine, then what do we have to do?
Firstly, decide whether or not you are going to stick around for all seven parts. I'm aiming to have them done within a few weeks time, and some parts are longer than others.
Secondly, each topic will ask you to create something. This something will be used by others so don't throw out anything that you'd rather not be shared.
Lastly, create.
What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating locations. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with creating a location. Just one, mind you. You'll do this like so:
- Use the first and last letter of your first and last name, respectively, in the name of your location. It can be anywhere in the name of the location. For example: My first name starts with an R and my last name ends in T, so I could have had something like "Origama Tunnel System" or "World of Mort" or even "Taverndale". As long as the two letters are somewhere in the name.
- Give a description of said location between 100 to 500 words.
- Post them in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my example in the location section.
- This Friday will be the deadline. That is May 11.
Locations can range from a single room to a whole world. You can be as creative or uncreative as you like, making something of complete fiction or somewhere you've been/know very well.
I am asking for a longer written exercise than the last, but bear in mind that this will help you at the end of the series.
Once your location is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date.

Raitheway Outer Wall
A long wall that stretches from the northern section of the Raitheway Cliffs, to the southern deadlands, it's seen a lot of damage in recent years from riots and vandalising youths. The wall itself is 16 feet high most of the way around, and is thick enough for two to walk abreast on. The outside of the wall is scarred and pitted due to constant abuse from both winds and human hands. Some parts had murals painted on them in the past but has since been graffitied over and whitewashed beyond recognition. Though initially built to protect the city from the frequent sand storms of the Obasi desert, lately it has been used as a check-point for the city militia to monitor who enters or leaves the city.
The wall has two main gates and a slew of smaller ones that back up in to backyards of houses, but since the increase of refugees from the cities beyond the desert, most gates have been sealed shut, including the main south gate. Those found to be using the sealed gates to sneak in or out of Raitheway are severely punished but this doesn't stop the booming trade that occurs behind the backs of the militia.
There are at least three tunnels that run under the wall, which are used by the unlawful to either sneak in refugees (for a price) or black market goods. Those that do know of these tunnels keep them a secret, though one is currently out of commission due to a collapse.
The House of Tears
A sprawling mansion that was once the house of a powerful noble family, the Dricily's. It lies in neglect and decay since the Battle of Dricily Hill 30 years prior. The battle culminated in the ransacking of the house and the slaying of most of the Dricily clan.
The once beautiful house is now referred to as the House of Tears; it's halls, rooms and corridors, once lavishly decked in fine tapestries, antique furniture and crystal chandeliers, now lie empty of anything of value. The grounds surrounding the mansion are just as vast, but now are overgrown, wild and hostile to new-comers. However, among the refuse and broken furniture, there supposedly lies a secret passage that leads to the treasures and riches that the Dricily's managed to hide before the battle.
However, treasure-hunters must be on guard, for the halls are haunted by the bitter deceased, still eager to defend their home and fortune as well as foul spirits, drawn to the poisonous atmosphere of the decrepit mansion.
Dreagen Island
During the Great War of Expansion, Dreagen Island was used as a POW labour camp by the Empire of Nanasa. There, vast mines were constructed where prisoners were forced to work extracting iron to contribute to the Nanasan war effort. The island soon earned the nickname of "Six month Island" - the average life expectancy of the slave labourers.
Today, more than 50 years after the end of the war, the island is lifeless, the mines and housing built for the residents fallen into ruin, the roads overgrown and deserted. It has become something of a tourist site for those interested in abandoned places, but only a small part of the island is safe enough to tour. Visitors who wander off might very well find the ground beneath them collapse into a long-forgotten mine shaft...or worse, one of the many unmarked mass graves said to dot the island.
Care Home #117
From the outside, the care home's garden appears well tended as the building's purpose may suggest. The lawn surrounding the home is two tones of vibrant, almost unhealthy green. There is a short dirt path leading up to the entrance from the nearby side walk, and it looks to have seen no footprint or mark. It remains completely untouched, and is eerily quiet.
When standing at the end of the dirt path, one can see into the care home through the panelled windows around its perimeter. A dark brown desk which clashes against the medical white of the rest of the building's decor is visible past the similarly dark curtains.
Through the glass door, the front entrance to Care Home #117, it becomes apparent that the decor really is entirely white. It has a strangely crisp feeling to it, and even the passing of feet makes no sound. Save for the faceless receptionist who frequents the open area, the lobby to the building is completely empty. There is a faint sound of dulled chatter from the living areas located at the back of the home, however..
Kelig Zoo
Situated along a main thoroughfare, the Kelig Zoo gathers animal specimens from near and far for entertainment and educational purposes. Like many zoos, Kelig is sectioned in zones relative to their specimen's natural habitat.
Outside of caring for their animal charges, they do provide a make-shift meeting place at the centre of the area. It has room and facilities enough for special occasions, such as birthdays or business meetings. However, the reality is that it is barely used outside of wandering families and their picnic lunches, or couples that happen to date there.
Tarnation Dam
A cryptic dam created by the ancients. Cobblestone litters the area, as well as several toxic jumping water plants. The dam control centre is at the top of the dam. The only way to go there is to risk your neck with the jumping water plants, so you can see why it was abandoned in the late 1490's. Though every once and awhile, some rowdy adventurer acts as a guide for overzealous tourists. It turns out there are a lot of myths surrounding the place, and tourists coming out of the place... certainly isn't one of them. Despite this all Tarnation Dam still functions nicely. It's rumoured that the ghost of the founder of the dam is slaving away day and night running the dam up in the lofty heights and dungeon-like control room.
Jamal's Locker
In the heart of Detroit, Jamal and his crew spend lunch here, just outside his locker, in Grosse Pointe public school. The hall has seen some years, that much is clear. The paint is sun-bleached eggshell white, and the lockers recently painted maroon five years ago.
Jamal's locker is about a foot wide and 5 feet tall. It sticks when you try to open and close it, after being slammed too often by the previous owner. There's a small black heart with J+M in the middle, drawn on by Jamal's on-again/off-again girlfriend.
The inside of Jamal's Locker is a foot deep: there is a shelf for books, and three hooks on the three walls; except two of the hooks are missing.
On the door inner, is a small magnetic mirror. Tucked behind the mirror so it sticks out the left side is a picture of Jamal and Maria on a park bench.
There's a spare dark green hoodie hanging inside the locker, and Jamal's gym shoes. On the shelf sits a copy of Mathematics 101, stolen now for two years. There is a binder with three-ring paper and a ball-point blue pen stuck to the plastic casing. The floor outside Jamal's Locker has a groove from years of the trio sitting there with their game-boys.
The lighting above Jamal's Locker is burnt out. The school has yet to replace it.
Giant Frog's Pond
A small, peaceful pond located in a clearing of a large forest. Lily pads freely bloom on the clear, still water. It's said that deep within the pond sleeps a giant frog, who acts as a guardian of the area. This rumour is supported by an old monolith near the pond that depicts a frog, although it's so old nobody really knows anything about it. Some people have taken to leaving small offerings at the monolith, and those who do claim to have not been bothered by a buzzing fly ever since.
Soul Barricade
A long corridor made of silver, which many said is infinite, that only souls could end, carve by the angels who protect the elves, considered a sin to put a foot on those divine floors. You either go south, or north, otherwise you will never be able to deviate, because, on each side there is an immense waterfalls which strength is so powerful that nothing is able to touch it, not even to get near. About the sky, it is this bright green, clear of clouds, despite of no sun, this celestial ceiling have his own faint light. at the beginning of the corridor, and the end of the human world, there is this giant cube of light, which is covered of ancient glyphs that only gods understand, this cube, visible only to the deaths, is one of the many ways to what people known as "what is beyond of life". The function of this cube is to strain the heavy souls who have committed a lot of sins, and only let through the ones who are light and have live pure enough.
South Du'yova
A forest of an autumn footfall, where the trees and large lake spanning the entire forest create a pathway through this lustful forest. Mythical creatures could be found here, but only if you looked hard enough.
South Du'yova is known often as the "Playground of Pixie Dust." because the sun rays oft shine on the lake with an ever so peaceful bloom. The smell of early dew blossoms bless the forest with a fragrant smell. Autumn is constant fall, and the orange leaves are scattered, almost manually to feel like the trees are greeting your presence. A befitting land for pixies.
If mayhap, an adventurer is lucky enough, they might be able to hear the neighs of a mythical horse, or the playful laughter of pixies playing at the lake. The only other sound is a soft breeze which feels like mother nature's whisper, and a harmonic trickling sound coming from a soft, easygoing stream.
Though this land is beautiful in sight and presence, it holds a much darker purpose.
It is a centre ground for a war against man and beast. Yes, if you were to adventure into the outskirts of this blessed wood, you'd see broken down wooden contraptions which looked like rams, and huge debris dents in the ground, formerly holding flaming projectiles.
South Du'yova had another name. Its battle name. It was called "Flowers of a Warground". Its beauty, cloaked in sorrow, its shining brilliance, drenched in fallen battles. The forestland of mythical creatures is beautiful, yet brutal, but yet, the mythical creatures live on, the forest lives on. Still shining its orange glow over its battle scars and bruises. The forest lives on in beauty.
Many stand in memorial at the edge of this forest, paying their respects to the fallen soldiers who tried to defend and preserve a land they treasured. The wind could feel their sorrow, and would breeze and water eyes while the leaves fell gracefully.
Lyric Lake
A large lake covered in eerie mist and surrounded by tall, violet mountains. They say that a beautiful voice can be heard from under the water. According to local legend, the voice belongs to a beautiful singer who drowned in the lake long ago, and now haunts it. Anyone who hears her voice is enchanted, drawing them to the bottom of the lake to their doom. A ferry service is available for travellers who wish to cross the lake unharmed.
Eerie of Rimdor
A once bustling mountain crawling with adventurers' seeking their fortune and the like. Now it is an abandoned rockheap infested with demented creatures of all sorts. The top reaches the lowest level of clouds and is snow-capped, and the sides have been made dangerously steep from the long downpours of rain along them.
At the peak stands a large one-hundred foot monument of the first person to ever set foot on the peak--Thomas Terrancesson. He holds a lance in his right hand and a buckler strapped to his right arm. He is carved out of the very mountain itself.
None have set foot on this mountain since the incident.
Stanley's Chocolate Factory
Stanley's factory was established in 1999. It was founded by him, his long-lost brother from Machu Picchu, and his other long-lost brother from Yugoslavia. The building was to be site of innovation-- Stanley and his brothers made the chocolate factory exactly 8 feet below ground level.
The building was made to resemble an 1800s chocolate factory. It was abandoned 1 year after construction, when they produced too much chocolate and it flooded the basement.
Geilec Junction
Buried in the forefront of the gaseous planet Aremda, Geilec Junction is a port town founded by the crew of a ship that crashed and lodged itself into the planet's dense outer layer surface. Life energy is supported by generators scattered across Aremda that uses the steam from the gas vents located on the planet's second layer to create ample oxygen for those living in the Geilec Junction.
The outer-shell of Geilec Junction is comprised of an alloy that is obtained when taking the native gases of Armeda and putting them under intense pressure. This alloy was able to adapt to the temperatures of Armeda with far greater efficiency, in comparison to human alloys. With further development, the inhabitants of Geilec were able to create a weather system that regulated temperature and weather so as to make sustainability, through food and climate, easier.
The lower-rim of the Geilec Junction contains the ports for which space-crafts and carriers land when importing/exporting goods, as well as parking docks for tourists. Geilec contains a moderate population of about 250,000, with the city set in multiple layers on top of platforms that are lodged into the sides of Geilec's outer shell. Each platform is a circular shaped piece of Armedian alloy, the same material used to create the city's dome, and they sustain individual colonies of shops, buildings, and communities. The foundation of each individual building is merged into the body of the platform, as the platform is merged into the city's outer-shell. Using the Aremdas gas in liquid form, the buildings housed on top of each platform fuses into the alloy of which the platforms are created, becoming one entity. And, by simply using an extreme coolant, the building structure can be easily dismantled.
Armeda is known for it's high-tech advancements using Armedian gases and it's two other physical states. Hundreds upon thousands of visitors to Geilec Junction come in hopes of purchasing Armedian based weapons, vehicles, and merchandise, which are calculated to sell for millions of dollars.
Crystal Fjord
Located deep in the heart of Gidaria, the Crystal Fjord is a beautiful sight to behold. Once a kilometre-long rushing expanse of water, an unknown event caused the entire landscape to crystallise, forming a natural crossing and once again enabling trade between Treca and Port Seldor, which had been almost impossible beforehand because of the treacherous waters and lack of easily-available airship technology.
As with most things on Gidaria, tales as to the cause of the crystallisation vary between the planet's two main religious bodies, Serpentalis and Zodiac: Serpentalis doctrine states that the Fjord is in fact a skin shed by the Creator, while Zodiac maintains that it was a gift from Aquarius to steer mankind back on the path to integration and acceptance. There is an emerging myth--which is gaining traction even as far as the Vanishing Isle, according to some--that the crystallisation was in fact the by-product of a spellcrafting attempt gone horribly wrong.
Waterfall of Jade
Description: Shining as bright as the sun, and being the highest point in the universe, to see this area is like getting paid 1,000 pieces of gold, every few seconds! Only the most adventurous of people have seen it, and it's more dangerous on the journey, then it is actually being there.
It was found in the year 3000 when explorers travelled here. And instead of taking samples, they marvelled in its glory. So many people hear the story of the waterfall, that they may begin to wander what the water tastes or feels like. Well, the water is actually cursed, and one drink, and you disappear, one touch, and your skin burns. Still looks good though.
So the first letter of our first name is the first letter of the location name, and same with the last letter of both?
It can be anywhere in the name of the location. My letters were R and T, I could have had something like "Origama Tunnel System" or "World of Mort" or even "Taverndale". As long as the two letters are somewhere in the name. :D

This seems pretty fun so far!

Location descriptions are probably my worst skill. Probably because I generally don't care how a place looks. This might go a long way in explaining my mapping skills! Anyway...

The floor outside Jamal's Locker has a groove from years of the trio sitting there with their gameboys.
The lighting above Jamal's Locker is burnt out. The school has yet to replace it.

I found a lot of the Character names on Facebook. Kind of funny

Wonder how my writing skills are. This one's pretty big!

It is a center ground for a war against man and beast.
Yeahh, this is terribly late. Sorry about that.
A ferry service is available for travelers who wish to cross the lake unharmed.

Great Zeuzio! I had wondered where yours was. :D

Alright, I state it once in each topic - as long as you go back and complete the rest of the topics as well, you can still join. Just keep in mind that there's four or five steps to go and that you HAVE to be part of all of them, so please, if you don't think you can do that...

Here's mine, then!

Still here! And determined, lol.

I'm trying to get back on track with everyone.

One of my lines have been taken out to make sure there's less than 150 words.
Waterfall of Jade
Description: Shining as bright as the sun, and being the highest point in the universe, to see this area is like getting payed 1,000 pieces of gold, every few seconds! Only the most adventurous of people have seen it, and it's more dangerous on the journey, then it is actually being there.
It was found in the year 3000 when explorers traveled here. And instead of taking samples, they marveled in its glory. So many people hear the story of the waterfall, that they may begin to wander what the water tastes or feels like. Well, the water is actually cursed, and one drink, and you disappear, one touch, and your skin burns. Still looks good though.
