CloseOk, so the picture shows it below, but the outline of the ocean tile's outline shows when I try to put it up against another tile. Does anyone know of a solution to the problem? I've seen these kinds of tile used successfully, so I know something's possible.

Sana is correct, hold shift when using the water tiles against the cliff edges. If you don't hold it down, it tries to find the nearest autotile to form the edge of the lake in your case.
