KING OF AMERICA

So I often play rps because I like the idea of knights serving their king. Following codes and living honorably. I guess my question is, how different would America be if ruled by a king, whos word is law, instead of everyone having a voice. I'm sure our freedom would be different. Is as much freedom as we have always a good thing? Look at our society, does it not seem to get worse and worse? If we had a just king instead of congress and what not, would society be better? Would crime be down? How would you feel living for a King, as most of the characters we often play as do? In this day and age would a King even work? Totaly crazy thought, I know, but something I've often thought about because of my love of rpgs. So I wanted to know fellow rpg fans thoughts. Feel free to post your thoughts and flames freely. As I'm tough sitting behind my keyboard and you wont see me cry.
We seem to do okay with a queen. Just sayin'. :P
(also we totally don't because the UK was like the first country into the recession and one of the only ones still in it but POLITICS)

Dictatorships eh. Well I suppose you could look at other dicatorships. Maybe if it was of the medieval model with feudalism then it would be really crazy!
When it comes to politics I always want to go to a place were there are no humans, and live by myself in nature... then I watch Man V.S Wild and I change my mind.
Well if it was an RPG king, I think things would be great : he's always the nicest person and frankly, exept for the games of a few "weirdos", everyone seem extremely content, happy, rich and free! As for real life monarchy, you know how it goes : "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"!

I thought that RPG kings were usually possessed by demons or something and plunging the land into some kind of despair that the rpg heroes have to clear up.
Man vs wild is awesome. See Chana I agree that power could indeed corrupt, then we would be in trouble. Also Shinan is right, demon possessed kings always seem to be a problem. Trihan thats pretty interesting.
How does it go? There is no Knowledge that is not Power. There is no Power without Control. There is no Control without... um... I forget. "Practice", possibly. I'm probably getting something wrong, though.
But yeah, chana's onto something with "absolute power corrupts absolutely".

We were thinking of addressing the president as "Your Highness" back in the day before we settled on "Mr. President", just saying.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

After the Revolutionary War, the founding fathers actually approached George Washington and asked him if he wanted to be the king. He said no. If someone asked me if I wanted to be King of America I would have a hard time saying no.
Monarchies do pretty good when there's a good monarch and pretty bad when there's a bad monarch. The more people you distribute the power to, the less likely changes are, for better or worse.

Kings do occasionally get their heads cut off. Presidents however can always pass the buck on to someone else.

Agree, but I would totally be dead if I was him. Also, I prefer to be opressed by a corrupt king/president/congress/god/dog/etc... than drink my pee.

I've always been of the opinion that a monarchy with a good monarch is better than any other form of government any day of the week. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

I don't know. Princes, pretenders and queens are much more likely to get their heads cut off (by order of the king). I mean who orders the king decapitated?

The jealous brother/uncle does. He tricks the prince into it, then gets rid of the prince, and takes the throne. I think I got this off the Lion King, and half the rpgs.
In Imperial France, the people decapitates the king.
