RPG APP?

So, I am about to learn how to make apps using Java (and in the future I'm gonna learn other programming languages like C+) and it will probably take me a year or two to get to this point, but what do you people think if I made a mini RPG app. Where there were four free apps that each had RPG like gameplay that tied together at the end of each. There would be a sequel that would cost $1-$5 depending on how hard it was to make. So, what do you think, is an RPG app a good idea or a bad one?
Um, I don't see why not. It would help if you can do research on RPG apps first and how they work, because they do exist. And by app, I assume mobile phones?
And erm, whether you would make the sequel not free depends on how successful your first RPG in app is in the first place. It's all about marketing.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Plus the complexity of it all will determine if I pursue a sequel. I'm just pretty excited to start working to getting involved in the android market and I love RPGs so...
Nobody's stopping you. If you feel you can do it, and it's your passion, go for it :) As long as you are confident in creating a fun RPG.
I think you've got a great idea! Perhaps you can make it sort of like Dragon Warrior 4 from back in the day: i.e. each of your Free apps is a short rpg centering on one of your team members. And your fifth paying app is one where you tie all 4 heroes together for a grand adventure. It's best if you can import your characters from your free games too.
I myself switched successfully from a long time RPG Maker fan to a mobile developer. A couple of friends and I released our first game for the iOS half a year ago, which you can find here:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sagas-rpg-boardgame-name-generator/id480496327?mt=8
It's called Sagas: RPG Boardgame & Name Generator. Honestly, it's not stupendously awesome, but hey it's a start. I also just submitted our first full scale iPhone RPG called Tales of Sorceria. It's a little closer to stupendously awesome. If things go well, it should go on sale in a week.
Mail me if you own an iOS device and would like a promo code (allows you to play the game for free) for either of our games.
I used the iTorque2D engine to build my games. You can try it out. The engine has its shining moments. For example it takes care of basic collisions for you. HOWEVER, I must say this engine has its faults and bugs. Also, it only works for iOS currently.
If I could do it over again, I would probably go with HTML5/jQuery or Flash. Flash is doing good mobile these days and CS6 looks pretty good. Plus, both of these can do both iOS or Android.
Good luck!

It's never too late to try Flash! And making a mobile app with it is very easy. My friend is working on an engine (in flash) to make Action-RPGs similar to Diablo 1 for iOS/Android and it works very well. We did some tests on an iPhone and there was almost nothing that needed to be changed besides the controls.
