[RM2K3] BATTLE LAYOUT

Is there a way to change battle layouts during the game ?
It seems restricting to stick to the same layout once you decide it in the database.
And there's the issue of having more characters join your party later that might seem odd when there are huge blanks to avoid overlapping previous party members..

Is there a way to change the battle layout when needed ?

EDIT : Okay, I have no idea why this posted in the general discussion section, could a mod please move this to the HELP section ?

I feel it's better to be consistent with something you're happy with rather than changing the look and feel of your game halfway through. I actually can't think of any game that does what you're trying to accomplish. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Characters won't overlap if you choose "automatic" positioning. You can adjust the character grid on a terrain-by-terrain basis until you get something you're happy with.

If you absolutely must, I'm sure you could change the battle layout with DynRPG.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If all you want to change is the the characters' positioning, and you really don't want to use automatic positioning, you can change terrains like dragonheartman suggested.

Then you'll need some way to change which terrain is used based on who is in the party. For a custom encounter system this is really easy to do. For the default random encounter system, I can think of two ways: the first way is to make several copy of each map, with different terrains set in the map properties, and teleport to a different map based on the party. The second way is to set the map properties so that the battle terrain is based on the tileset terrain, and then make a few copies of each tileset with different terrains, and change the map's tileset based on the party (changing the tileset of a map can be done in an event).

If I misunderstood, and you actually want to change from traditional to alternative style battle layout, then yeah just don't do that, it's dumb. I guess I could see doing it if you had two different types of battles in the game (normal battles and suikoden duels, for example) but it doesn't sound like that's what you want to use it for, unless I'm mistaken.
Sorry, I mean the position of the battlers ! Not the actual battle system.

Are you able to move around characters positions, as I don't like missing gaps between character battlers.

I just answered that in excrutiating detail, was part of it unclear? I will clarify if it was not clear.

Forgive me. I just saw dragon's post.
I'll play around and try to understand this.
Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated.

Yeah for the position of battlers, automatic is best. Be sure your battles inherit the battle background from terrains and then adjust the layout of the grid on the terrains in the database.

Now I'm wondering how exactly do I go about re-positioning the battlers through this terrain way. I can't seem to figure that out.

I seem to only be able to position the battlers manually under " battle layout " in the database.

I can't seem to find another way to do this. Or change terrains and rearrange the party formation.. any help would be nice.
Changing the battler position in-game is only possible using DynRPG, as far as I know.

When you look in the terrain tab, you choose a terrain background and should see gridlines overlaying the background image. You can adjust those to make their positions more distant/angled/etc. Play with those.

Then when you create your battles, be sure to select the battle background defined in the terrain, rather than selecting a static background.

It's in the battle layout tab, actually. I think you can change the grids for each terrain, but it might be for each battleback or something? I know in my game I have my characters much closer together in my town battles because the road in the background image is narrow.
@lockez @dragon

It seems to move every single person in the party. can I just simply move / one / character ?

Not with automatic positioning, no. If you switch to manual positioning, it won't reposition them automatically based on the number of party members any more, which was your whole problem. You can't have it both ways.
