OK, I'M SO CONFUSED ABOUT ONE OF GGZ'S RULES (WHICH DOSEN'T MAKE SENSE.)

I was going to join GGZ in an effort to be apart of some other communities, then I saw their rules. This is a text taken from the rules page.

"NO RM2K3!!! Posting of original resources, games, tutorials and discussions relative to or made with any LEGAL game maker is permitted. GGZ reserves the right to remove any screens or links to games, etc., if GGZ deems them to be made with an illegal maker. Links to Enterbrain and/or their legal postings of new materials and/or games is permitted."

I think it's funny that they allow RM2K, which is illegal. So, that means that should be against the rules. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that make them hypocrites? I mean, if they want to go for a clean look and feel (which is fine) and they don't want to allow RM2K3, how is allowing RM2K justifiable?

EDIT: Just noticed I posted in the wrong section, I'm sorry.
you should ask in GGZ not here. Also Rm2k value is still being legally sold. Rm2k3 is not :X

Remember when I actually used to make games? Me neither.

Sounds ridiculous indeed. The now-defunct Don & Stifu's forum had the same "No rm2k3" crap, and for some reason, I keep remembering that it was because Don wasn't the one who translated it.

You could send an email, though.
I tried asking this in the past (was a member a long time ago.) I got suspended without warning and no explanation to my question. This topic idea just randomly popped into my head earlier when I tried to re-sign up. Then I found the rules (which I had forgotten about.)

EDIT: The RM2K Value program, thats all well and good. I can guarantee though, that a large chunk of their members probably use the illegal version.

Shocking, isn't it? That site is just useless to anyone other than the people who have been members there for years. I don't even think that they accept new members, because I've tried registering over the years with different names and such just because I was curious and wanted to know what the community was even doing because they're never heard from. They're pretty weird that way and I could forgive them for being so isolated if they were all still teenagers, but they're obviously not anymore. They just don't seem to like outsiders.

If RPG Maker websites were a classroom, GGZ would be an angry kid at the back who insists on being left alone at all times merely because he/she is introverted to the extreme.

Or maybe even North Korea would be a good analogy.

That was part of the argument. Since rm2k3 had been "pulled from the shelves" and pretty much the only way to get a copy of the program was (is) by pirating it, GGZ and other sites took the decision to not allow anything related to rm2k3 at least until that situation changed. This was back in the day (8 years ago or so?) when people from Enterbrain were saying: "You know, guys, if you stop pirating rm2k3 we may release it in English." so they agreed to do just that. Later Enterbrain went: "lol j/k", but GGZ never let go of its promise and eventually that took a toll on the community... When XP finally came out none were too impressed by it, and with no official release of rm2k3 in sight, people just started losing interest in rpg maker all together. =(

The "isolation" occurred in part because upon learning of this decision people from Gaming World started posting rm2k3 content, along the overall drama that ensued. And as anyone would have expected some of them got suspended or banned, but only to register again and keep challenging/questioning said decision. This was the last drop in a history of animosity between the two sites that made Wishmoo close the community and allowing inside only those willing to join in good faith. It was something that was never meant to last, but it did, and that too was part of the site's eventual downfall. xP

Well, to be fair, no one really stopped pirating rm2k3. There was always a way to get it.

I do remember when there was this stigma about rm2k3, though, when it was first released. Even RPG Advocate was against people pirating it (even though he translated it). He insisted that people buy the original japanese version and apply his English patch.

So this one time me, androdas and Paradigm added a bunch of porn sites to GGZ's affiliates list because they had an exploit that allowed people to inject content into it. Good times.
