well well well... arriving right from my introduction post in the other room, i felt like i needed to bridge the gap created in my 4-5 year away from rpg making... but before starting a new project in my Brand New Official English Premium Super Fantabulous RGSGGSSSSSSSS 3.0-enabled RPG Maker VX Ace, I desperately need a few iconic RM games to regenerate my game making taste according to recent trends and milestones.
Of course nothing is good as a couple of no.1 games for the thousands of hours of free time i have next week (since college is officially over!!! YESSS!!).
Therefore, I just need everyone's suggestions on the best games released since 2007-2008. It would nice if you could write one sentence or two about each game, so that i won't be surprised to death! ;)
P.S. Although I'm familiar with MISAO awards, and know them from early 2000s when they were up in queens court, i don't find them capable of revealing all the good stuff you enjoyed through these years. I'd rather personal opinions than poll results. thanks!
EDIT: SnowOwl has a point, anything but your own games! :D

Some of the games might be pre-2007 but I think those are Sunset over Imdahl in the first list and the bottom half of the 2nd list. Still good games though if you haven't checked them out.
I have to add to this list but I've been meaning to make another post for that later.

thanks ocean, with an instant look i realized we have much in common in terms of gaming taste! in fact i still have imdahl, naufragar, rose chronicles and philosopher's stone in my hard disk! :D
I recommend making whatever you're going to make regardless of what 'latest trends' are popular. Besides, by the time the game is finished, the trends will probably be different anyway!
Oh, and RPGs you should play? I dunno. I'm not sure I've played any in the last five years.

That is cool, those were good games!
Oathguard is not out yet but you can take a look into that, and Raciela just had a demo you could look into as well!
I have nothing against RMVX/Ace games but I don't always see many of them that appeal to me so I guess I'll have to wait for more recommendations for those too.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

This list is rpgmaker.net's featured games. One finished game is featured each month. The featured games aren't necessarily games that were just finished that month - a lot of the time, these games didn't become featured until they'd become popular and were widely regardes as hits. (Though this isn't true in every case.)
I haven't played most of them, but none of them are bad games. The featured games are different from the misaos in that they're chosen by the staff instead of by votes (though there's a discussion thread where people suggest games to feature).

I recommend:
Hero's Realm - the full version is a very solid old-school cross final fantasy-based RPG that will take you a while to finish.
The Reconstruction - a pseudo tactics/strategy RPG which has pretty nice graphics and recieved a bit of acclaim for being different.
Exit Fate - if you enjoyed the Legion Saga series you should like this as it's a good clone of Suikoden and has custom art which is very nice.
Avarice - a pretty nice adventure game made in an RM engine (VX) and is pretty and pretty fun to play. Interesting characters, too.
Leo and Leah - Strangeluv's heart-warming and cute story of a lion trying to find his friend.
Manifest - a decent and solid RPG that's been kind of overlooked.
Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy - newly finished and really worth checking out, it's a decent FF fangame!
Princess Princess - a short but challenging game that's snowballed into a series. Definitely worth a play.
Chain of Retribution - recently finished chain game of awesomeness, with great art, characters and an interesting battle system.
Story of Innocence - another lesser-known game that's worth a look, it has great characters, plot and graphics. Made by same creator as Raciela (which is also well-worth a check - pirates~).
RE Alistair - pretty visual novel worth checking out.
Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer - dark and controversial, but worth playing once.
Befuddle Quest series - for a puzzle fix - there's four of them and they're a community project.
Dhux's Scar - play this!!! Religion and evil, demons and very good graphics and story.
Visions and Voices - interesting little 'horror' game.
The Cartographer - not your typical hero with an interesting story.
Generica - a slice of old school fun.
Legionwood - a decent RPG with a lot of play time and an interesting story.
SkyE - side-scrolling shooter simulation that's actually kinda fun.

May I add to Liberty's list "Last Scenario".
Last Scenario and Exit Fate are must-tries, and both are made by the same author. They're not found in this website, but can be found here: http://site.scfworks.com/
I think what I like about the above two games is because of their interesting gameplay, depth and the stories themselves. Last Scenario, particularly, does not appear to be what it seems, with twists along the way. You'll just have to play them to understand. Highly recommended!
All the other games that Liberty mentioned are found in this website, so have fun playing :)
EDIT: Oh, and of course, not forgetting Alter AILA and Alter AILA Genesis. I think what is so unique about those game is the innovation in those games. Both are set in post-apocalyptic settings, with Genesis being the remake of the original. But I highly suggest playing both to get the full story, particularly starting with Alter AILA first.

LockeZ mentioned the list of featured games, but I will recommend one in particular.
Wither
It's a short "game" that came out of nowhere and became pretty popular pretty fast. It's more like an interactive story and takes about an hour to finish.

Very thorough list and I agree with Liberty, these are very good picks!
Mateui also recently completed Pengui, ag ame that he was working on for what felt like an eternity. That game is worth checking out too.
errm how about this?
TRY LOOKING BY YOURSELF!!(Just kidding :p)

Hmm... this is definitely in my top 5 RPG Maker games of all time. It's just so polished, and complete.
