NEW RULE: STOP POSTING SHITTY BLOGS
Posts
author=kentonaOh you.
I have control issues.
On a more serious note though.. Maybe instead of latest blog on the front page go by the ones that are generating the most discussion at the time? I don't know.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Well, that's what the buzz section is. The latest blogs section is chronological instead. Right now we have both sections, so people can use whichever they prefer.
You could sort them the way forum posts are sorted, listing them based on most recent response instead of most recent OP, but then you need rules against bumping and necroposting blogs. So that's no better, don't do that. There've been enough random changes for now, anyway.

Make blogs have their own page, which would display the last 50 blogs.
Sort these blogs by upload date, then for each day sort them again by word count (but don't tell anyone this!)
There, problem covered up with a piece of ducttape.

Too bad that when someone posts a comment on a blog, that date becomes the date the blog was posted. I brought this issue up before.

Your plan needs more duct tape ;P
While I applaud the effort of cleaning up idiotic blogs, I personally wouldn't mind seeing a bumping date in the game list to know which ones have been bumped recently. So many games get bumped on any given day, it's almost impossible to tell which one I might have visited recently, and which ones may have been bumped since.
Well, there is a Date Updated field that is updated every time the creator adds/modifies something or if someone posts. The Games list is automatically sorted by Date Updated. Also, whenever some action occurs on the game profile, notices are sent out to all the subscribers.
I would recommend subscribing to games you are interested in. (it's our best feature, imho)

At first I genuinely liked this rule, it was the step in the right direction in terms of upping site standards. But I've changed my mind since yesterday after seeing what happened to a new user joining up and uploading his game with blog on here for the first time. The blog itself was simply titled welcome and the said blog content was simply a small introduction for himself, (I guess he was too shy/lazy to post a forum introduction). Shortly afterwards the usual moderation rule of upping blog standards was being rammed right into this kids face with a few others chiming in, and then the gamepage disappeared (it was called Silent Night I believe). What I'm trying to say is that policing blogs and intimidating new users by effectively saying your blog is shit do better is perhaps a tad too heavy handed and would most likely scare people off from this site.
Honestly this wasn't even an issue in the first place. If I remember correctly it was only the one or two members going around and saying stupid stuff like "WHAAAA! ONE SENTENCE BLOGS! WHAAA!" And just harping on them in general.
I'm going to pull some stats from the I can't stand the stat rain in July topic.
##################################################################
### TOTAL NUMBER OF DOWNLOADS ###
##################################################################
1,030,186
##################################################################
### TOTAL NUMBER OF USERS ###
##################################################################
22,813
##################################################################
### CONTENT COUNT ###
##################################################################
game: 1765
As you see the total amount of users we have as of July 2nd is numbered at 22,813 with less than 1765 active developers (taking in consideration of multiple games from the same user) with a combined total of 1,030,186 downloads of all time. Now with regards to blog standards, would any one of those individuals who clicked the download button honestly cared about a one sentence blog at the bottom of a gamepage? Quick answer very unlikely. So this rule is effectively appeasing one or two of our members who decided this was suddenly the biggest war crime on the internet. Don't get me wrong, I'm all up for increasing site standards and better moderation, we already have an review, demo and gamepage submission queue. Having mods checking the word count on each and individual blog is just overkill. Just why are we so hard on ourselves and this site, it's starting to turn into a parody =/
Just like to add that this post is not directed at you kentona or the rest of the staff, it's aimed squarely at the small majority of members who keep on pushing for unnecessary rule changes.

Zat must of been rough on the kid but you see, stopping shitty blogs means finally stopping the "Hey guys! I added an extra black dot to my charset!" or "I dropped my Doritos while putting this bastard of an NPC on the map!" one liner blogs.
But what I agree with is that new members should be warned cuz at first, they will not roam the forums to know exactly what to do and what not to do on this site.

It shouldn't show as updated if some random user posts. Cause nothing about the game was updated.
"oh look, this old game got updated finally!...oh wait, it's just catchaserguns asking when it will be finished :|"
It basically undermines the whole point of having a date updated field. Same with the blogs. RMN's greatest flaw (haha)

There could be some lenience on new members. Perhaps that should be looked at before bringing the blog hammer down. But, at the same time, that kid was too fragile for the internet. If he gives up that easily on something as trivial as people telling him his blog isn't long enough(unless there were insults, too), then he most likely wouldn't have made it very far anyways.
It's too bad that this happens sometimes, but it's probably for the best. RMN shouldn't have to hold new members hands to make sure they don't get insulted or butt-hurt over every little thing. It's possible that kid was going to find something else to blow out of proportion and crush his tiny spirit, anyway. Some people are like that.
Life is rough, deal with it. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. And so on.

Typical... Well, I don't know about others but I always tried to be polite whenever I approached people about their blogs, and you can go trough my post history and try to prove me wrong if you want. I stand by all the "stupid stuff" I wrote... Now, I don't know who did talk to this person you speak of, but chances are it was Deckiller and he's way, waaay nicer/subtler than me. And if this kid got his feeling hurt just because of that, chances are he would had run anyway as soon as anyone criticized any aspect of his game or behavior. So, what was lost again?
But let me get this straight, you are actually in favor of "increasing site standards and better moderation", right? You even thought this rule was "a step in the right direction", didn't you? This is just your knee-jerk reaction to some kids' overreaction to criticism... Well, don't you think that maybe you're misplacing the guilt for this particular happening over the rule itself and those of us who were vocal about it? Uh?
And just so you know, I always welcome a pinch of snarkyness in people's posts, but you may want to word things a bit better from now on if you want this conversation to go any further. I've gone on lengths about all this before and I don't feel like wasting my time now.
Alterego, you did complain about it/start this up. Only you and possibly Creation were noticeably 'angered' by all of this, and while one-liner blogs are stupid, there is no reason to endlessly bicker about them.
Actually, this discussion should probably end.

Does anyone have contact information for the guy who made Silent Night so I can try to get him to put the game page back up? I'm really upset about this. What was said to him exactly?
So am I.
I've always been against this rule : just read some of those blogs, this is obviously where makers joke , laugh, confide, anything but something that should be reglemented, imo.
Can't find anything about the author of Silent Night.
author=aeNope, I was shocked when I read those comments, they weren't impolite nor nasty, just bewilderingly cold for a first game put out.

It's not like people can't post one sentence blogs any more. Those posts have just been moved to the Game Comments section instead. The only thing this rule really means is "game comments and blogs are no longer exactly the same thing, the definition is now that blogs are longer and comments are shorter." You guys are acting like people are being disallowed from posting; that's not the case, they're just being told to use this page instead of this other one.
