SOMETHING OUT OF MY LEAGUE

I wanna try and do something that is completely out of my league. I think it is kinda like a CBS. I kinda want to make it where the hero is walking along and steps on an event(but also wanna figure out how to make it so it's also random) that takes him into battle, except of going through the usual battle style, the hero stays in that spot and battles. Kinda of like Crono Trigger and Breathe of Fire III style. But, I as mention, this is out of my league and don't know how to begin this.
Plus, I am undecided to either have health bars or numbers.

Check The Longing Ribbon for a decent example. The battles are sort of random--you don't trigger them by walking into enemies--but they still take place on the map.
The Longing Ribbon is on the site. Search for it.

I usually use RM2k, but I am thinking about using RM2k3 for this. And yeah, The Longing Ribbon has what I was talking about, but the coding kinda lost me. :-\
Yeah, the difficult part is going to be making it so that there is no transition between battles. Everything else is simple. If the eventing lost you, I would wait until you have a little more experience or use that game as a template.

Yeah, i agree with this. You should check out some of the games on this site as they will help you. Also, check out some of the tutorials you can find, you should find something similar to this that can be of some help.
Well, you could try and get around the coding.
Just use the background for a DBS battle your map (take a picture of it, then place it)
Then set the battle transitions to No Transitions.
It may not be fancy or what you want exactly, but its a suggestion.

@iamnot: I thought about it, but I want to stay away from the DBS unless it's the last resort. Though, this does give me another idea which could or could not be simpler.
And I think I am beginning to understand the code from The Longing Ribbon, but I am stuck.
What I am stuck at is should I either have the character just jump like in The Longing Ribbon or try to sprite the character's weapons with the characters(charset style). But, probably mention alot of times, I suck at spriting. >.<;;

Well then, i would probably just go with the first one but if you want to do the spriting one then maybe you should request for someone to do it. There are several good artists on this forum.
@DemonD: Meh, I'll stick with just the basic standing.
Ok, so I spent most of my day yesterday and three hours today trying to find modern chipsets, but I am having no luck what-so-ever. I've checked over at charas at alot(the place is kinda unorganized), that one site that supposed to be taken over for phylomortis, gaming ground zero, and many others. But no luck. Manly, I've just trying to find a modern city chipset with a beach, but I probably can edit if I can just find a modern chipset. :-\

The problem with The Longing Ribbon's system is that the characters have a very limited range of moves--i.e. one can attack and heal, one knows strong physical attacks, one can exorcise things, etc. This allows it to use the standard message windows for its menus without too much trouble. If you're creating a more traditional RPG, though, you'll probably need to create custom message windows instead, with custom number displays, etc.
So, it's even more difficult!
