MAPPING CONTEST #2(FINISHED)
Posts
I've been in such a creative slump of late. Maybe I should have a look-see with what I can do for this?
@giaks - It's never too late my friend!
@Marrend - Hey, I hope this helps out.
Come on guys, put your name down, it'll be fun!

This may seem like a hollow question but here goes nothing: In terms of dungeons and sticking to what a dungeon is, is there any limit to how far you can go to implementing stuff such as systems? An example would be like a menu of instruments used to circumvent puzzles. I understand that this is just a perk and the meat of the map is, well, the map, but I thought that I'd throw it out there.
Also, count me in.
One more point that I'd like to touch on. When I think of dungeon, there are two types that come to mind. The first is the crummy place that's kind of like a dismal chamber-ish area and then there's the conventional RPG dungeon where you have to accomplish a certain goal in order to complete the dungeon; would it be against the rules to roll with the latter option? Thanks.

You can do whatever you want as long as you stick within the theme. Interpretation of that theme is up to you. Just remember we'll be judging presentation only, not the puzzles implemented or story, etc.
I think for the next one I'll mix things up a little.

I'm in. *.> but I'm also slightly confused. When I think Dungeon" i thin of a series or rooms or caves, -each of which is of course its own small map. But you say it can be only one map. So does it have to be a large extended room or am I misunderstanding?
Just try implementing your idea onto one single map by any means necessary. If you want to make a bunch of rooms but still contain it within one map try parallax(???) mapping.
This is something I probably should have clarified before officially signing up... I'm using a 2d maker (Rm2k3), but right now my brain is locked into fake first person perspective mode.
I've started sketching out ideas for my dungeon, but it occurred to me that with my method, maps tend to feel much bigger than they actually are. A well fleshed out 20x15 map can feel absolutely cavernous with my system.
If my point of view plan is going to be a problem, let me know, and I can map up something else as an also-ran.

Ljink the mapping legend wants to make one... too bad I cannot access my computer at the time or probably for a while'
I think I finally have an idea for this. Hopefully, it won't cause too much trouble.
*Edit: Man, what have I done in the last two hours? This map, and the accompanying events, are such an in-joke, it's not even funny. Okay, it's an in-joke, so the laughs are on my end, and probably not on anybody else's.

What I'm thinking about doing is creating the entrance of this dungeon. i want to make my map somewhat of a teaser to what the real dungeon might become.
Probably gonna call it The Sky Prison. Can't wait to work on mine~ x-3

I know I can't win this but I know this will be fun and I didn't make a whole new chipset for nothing.:D

That is what I did. Having more of a teaser map, than a fully fleshed out one.
I'm pretty much done with my map, but it's making me want to make a whole new game!

Hey, at least you're on the right track. I've spent at least 6 hours fiddling with a heavily-scripted boss fight and a ton more time on trying to fit a bunch of puzzles and a plot into a single map even though that stuff doesn't actually count for this contest (it would probably go faster if I was more used to RPG Maker, but this is my first time making something even to this extent so I'm sort of learning as I go); can't say I'm not having fun making it though even if it won't win.
I guess this leads me to a question though: I know puzzles won't factor into the voting process, but do environmental changes caused by puzzles count as 'puzzle elements' or 'aesthetics'?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Finished my entry. Adding an MP3 changed it from a 1MB to a 4MB download, and there are gonna be a lot of entries. Oh well, that's the judges' problem! Actually, how is this being judged? Maybe it is my problem.
I sort of wish it wasn't done by PM, because I'm impatient and wanna see everyone's dungeons.

Well since it's presentation were judging not gameplay it should be fine. Thanks to everyone

Self confidence, I like it!
@LockeZ - If everyone sends them in early I'll show early.
Great stuff so far guys, keep em coming!
Can I put cutscenes?
I will put the choice in the beginning of the game to turn battles and cutscenes off.
I am also putting rooms which you teleport to but they are all on the same map.
+I will lock up my game so nobody touches my resources but I will take a snap shot of the map to show you that it's just one map.
Is it allowed?
