Speaking of Final Fantasy VIII, that orphanage twist.. why? One of the dumbest plot twists I've ever seen, fucken ridiculous. Almost as bad as Star Ocean 3s, but that game is shit to begin with so.

Agreed. That part ruined the game for me and destroyed any chance of the story had of redeeming itself.
I would've hated star ocean 3 if I hadn't had so much fun with the battle system.

Lame plot, weird prog rock-ish score, boring characters (well I liked Albel but that's about it), but a fun battle system.
I can't believe no one's brought up Metal Gear Solid yet. I love those games. I love the mechanics and the overall story that drive them, but by Odin's beard if Kojima doesn't need to hire an editor to keep his long-windedness under control. Easily 1/4 to half of the cutscenes in these games could be cut out for the betterment of the game.
Was only really a problem in MGS4, otherwise the cutscenes were pretty rewarding.

@Stew - Because this is bad moments in good games.. Haha nah just kidding, the original game aint bad.
I was playing Plants vs Zombies yesterday and I realized how much I didn't like the night levels in comparison to the rest of the levels in the game.

They're not really "bad" like everything else in this topic, but those levels aren't as fun as the rest of the game.

I actually love the longwinded cutscenes in MG series. It's like 1 part amazing gameplay, 1 part movie, 1 part audio book. So immersive! Plus if you don't give a shit, you can skip it.

What would be even more amazing is if you could choose what you skipped. So you could skip the gameplay, the movie or the audiobook as you see fit.

But no. Most games force the gameplay down your throat... (and others force the movie down your throat...)

It's Metal Gear Solid. The cutscenes are the game.

Also, escort missions, in any game. You try to kill the enemies, but you end up hitting your own guy. Not to mention he's dumb as anything, rushing out into combat zones. A classic case of failing even though you do nothing wrong.

Teleporter mazes! Only a diabolical madman would ever consider using these.

There’s a particularly bad one in Tales of Symponia which just thinking about makes me not want to play that game ever. There’s an even worse on in Secret of Evermore which is a teleporter maze with 90% of the screen blacked out and dozens of unlimited creepy clocked dudes who want to stab you. Gahhh...
The sewers part in xenogears and the moogle rescue in the intro of ff6 ;-;

I actually found MGS2 to be the worst. Then again that's probably because it had the worst story in the game. If it weren't so long you could totally center some drinking games around it. Take a shot whenever there's a double cross! Take a shot whenever Ocelet switches sides! ;)

@Archeia_Nessiah. Really? I loved the Moogle rescue! So silly and yet so charming. Pure 16-bit JRPG gold!

Others I've thought in the past few minutes.

Orzammar in Dragon Age just sucks. It's too long and the Dwarves are easily the least interesting part of the game.

Everything after the part where Cecil becomes a Paladin in Final Fantasy IV. While I understand why people love this game and I've beaten it several times myself, the story past this point just bugs me. Cecil's struggling with his dark nature and inner demons could have been the whole game for me. I couldn't two craps about Lunarians and all that nonsense.

The lack of direction in Dragon's Dogma. Not a bad moment so much as a bad mechanic, the fact that I just wandered for the entire time playing it made me feel like I wasn't making too big an impact. I mean, even in Skyrim if I wandered I felt like I was doing SOMETHING. Both games are good, but Dragon's Dogma didn't have that...feeling of accomplishment.

I had heard that. I was still really happy to see the game become successful though. It'll give the inevitable sequels a chance to improve.

What were people's feelings on the original Witcher? I've been trying to play through the first game before hitting the second and while I love the story and atmosphere of the game, I hate the combat. I feel so uninvolved through most of it and while I could just be doing it wrong (not bloody likely after fifteen hours), it just feels irreparably clunky.

Well it was ok at first until I had to battle all those wolves. It just became too old too fast for me. And they take forever! <_<;

The extra dungeon/quest in Chrono Trigger DS just about ruined the entire game. It is so vapid and poorly designed and implemented that it just reeks of "hey! I just found RPG maker and some CT rips! I'm going to make the awesomeest RPG ever starring Crono and Lucca and FROG and Robo! check it out!"

It was pretty awful. The monster raising minigame wasn't that bad. Though, maybe it was just good in comparison to the bonus quest.
