MONSTER CATCHING/TRAINING FEASIBLE?

Hi all, I've played many games here but I'm pretty new to the programming side of it all. So I was wondering if anyone with more experience can give a yea/nay to the idea of implementing a Pokemon-ish system using rpgmaker?

I know the catching part is possible, since a lot of games do it really nicely. The monster ends up stored as an inventory item, usually. But I'm not sure if you can assign HP/MP/XP/skills to an inventory item, or maybe a library of party members that are triggered by items? I don't even know how many ways there are of doing this.

It would be a pretty sweet battle system but I'm not going to pull it off anytime soon haha...in the meantime if anyone gives it a shot please let me know so I can see. Thanks!
I've never played a Pokemon game, but as I understand it, the setup is pretty similar to the Devil Summoning from the Shin Megami Tensei games. I have a game that uses a similar set-up. You are able to recruit enemies during combat once they are weakened, use them in your party, and get them to level up and gain new skills.

You might try my game out, if only to see that something like what you're shooting for is entirely possible.

Feel free to dig around in my common events to see how I did the summoning and dismissing. This really only applies to Rpg Maker 2k3, but I can only imagine it would be even easier to accomplish in the more modern makers.

You might want to start off with some smaller projects to get a better feel for whatever maker you are going to be using.
Yeah its possible. I've done it a few times. Basically using the Final Fantasy Legend / SaGa method. Maybe I should make an example.

You can have common items that change stats and keep stats in variables.
