How do you make a working chest in Rpg maker XP?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

A chest is a two page event. My treasure chest looks like a modern toolbox, but the default one looks like a typical video game treasure chest.

The first page looks like this:

Notice that the chest turns in several different directions, with a very short pause in between each turn. This creates the animation of the chest opening.

Notice that I add some armor to the player's inventory, and then show a message saying that it was added. The "wait for move's completion" command means that the message won't appear on the screen until the animation of the chest opening has finished.

Notice the self-switch being turned on at the bottom. You don't specifically have to use self-switch A, you can use any of the other self-switches, or you can use a regular switch. What's important is that on the second page, the condition on the left side is the same thing that's turned on at the bottom of the first page.

The second page of the event looks like this:

This is the page that shows after the chest has already been opened. You can see on the upper left that Self Switch A is set as the condition. This means that if the chest's self switch A has been turned on (which happens at the bottom of the first page, after adding the item to the player's inventory), the chest will look like this and will not do anything. You can tell that it won't do anything because there are no event commands on the right side.
