infey linked this to me just barely.

I cannot believe this is allowed to exist.
Whatever helps out the kids, I suppose. If it turns out to work, then by all means, let them do their thing.
Well as all members of the superior color are aware, black people are a menace to society and need to be seperated from the rest of us for the good of all parties involved.

...

This really pisses me off. Welcome to 1950s America, Toronto!

I don't see how putting all the black kids in their own school will help anything.
...That's not the issue at all. We've discussed this in another thread.

The issue they are trying to resolve is the ridiculously high dropout rate for black people. It's not mandatory in any way. Plus, people of any race can join.

"The Africentric grade school will seek to hire a number of black teachers and use a more global, less Europe-focused curriculum to engage more students of colour. It will be open to children of all backgrounds from anywhere in the city."

Maybe people are starting to realize that a schoolbased melting pot isn't the best approach? Because the way schools are run right now, boys are being left behind.

Plus, it's not that different that all the Churchies opting to go to Catholic God School - that, too, draws a cultural line in the sand.

lastly, Canada just doesn't have that kind of racial tension with blacks, at least compared to the US.

I think this has the potential to turn out well. (But recognize how it can turn out terrible).

Wow. That's all I can really say.
Lovely segregation.

At least now we'll know which schools to shoot so that purebloods don't go down by mistake.
If you guys really buy into this, this you're telling me that blacks don't learn as well in school than do the other kids. Seems pretty racist.
Blacks dropout more in the Toronto schools. That's a fact, not racism.

Just because a solution is culturally motivated doesn't automatically mean it's racist or discriminatory.

Ignoring the problem is working great, obviously.

Their different approach is to teach them Black Chemistry and Black Mathematics.
Of course, Grade 5 chemistry probably isn't too in-depth, anyway.

It's still better than Christian Chemistry or Theater Mathematics.

I don't think it is. In the article someone pretty much says "we are going to teach them black courses because they are black". That's bullshit segregation at its finest. Doesn't matter if christian schools exist, either.
While it's segregation we're accustomed to, it's definitely racism. They point out these kids as black and they're going to accomodate them as being black. It's as if the most important factor in their dropping out is because they're black! Whatever the goal they want to accomplish, I believe they are better off without this. Racism is evil no matter how dressed up it is.
Racism is all in the intent. People are trying something to help the 40% dropout rate for black kids, and are targeting their culture to accomplish it.

There is no discrimination. There is no denial of rights or benefits.

Again, this is not racism.

It's worse to let it go on as it is. Schooling is pretty damn euro-centric as it is, anyway. More schooling options in this case is better.

Yeah, we had this arguement already (WIP, I think you even posted in it).

Different does not mean deficient. I stole that line from Rev. Wright (unpatriotic!), but I think it's fitting in this situation.

I think it's absurd to take a one size fits all approach in schools anyways. The United States and Canada are composed of many different races and cultures, and I think it's ludicrous to force everyone into a cookie-cutter school that is geared towards one particular race or culture.

Before some idiot posts something like "if we opened a white school they would claim racism", schools are pretty much white by default.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. And what Toronto has is a terrible graduation rate for children of African descent. Win or lose, at least they are trying.
