FIRE EMBLEM: RADIANT DAWN (FE10 FOR THE WII)

This is my new favorite video game ever.
Is the latest refinement of the tried-and-true Fire Emblem TRPG engine.
Graphics: Adequate Although graphics aren't nearly what the Wii is capable of, artwork is very good, in-battle animations are neat to watch, especially as characters start developing god-like abilities.
Sound: Phenomenal The soundtrack makes me cry. Cry because it's so beautiful, and because I only hope to become as good as this composer someday. The sound effects are excellent. You can really feel the clanging of swords and axes, as well as the slashing of talons and claws. Of course, you can literally feel them because of the controller's rumble feature... so yeah.
Story: Good The storyline is way underrated. There are SO many side stories and characters. Ike's relationship to the Black Knight, as well as Micaiah's true nature, etc, etc... this game wraps up a lot of loose ends. The overall premise... war is bad, save the world... isn't anything groundbreaking, but I still wanted so badly to know what happens next. It's hard not to fall in love with the characters, even a lot of the villains, who are multi-dimensional for the most part.
Challenge: Very High This game is NOT for fire emblem beginners. The challenge level is really high. It gets easy at a few points, but you quickly learn a lesson in humility when you make one tiny tactical error and your healer gets slaughtered in one round. Very unforgiving challenge level. That said, I love challenge, and as a die hard fan of the franchise, I enjoyed this level of it. I would recommend fire emblem newcomers play FE9: Path of Radiance first, simply because it's easier, plus it's a prequel to this game story-wise.
Replay value: Huge It is ...........EPIC. I have logged 50+ hours on my first run through and I still haven't even beaten the game. The first playthrough rewards you with unlockable features, so the game gives you at least 2 full playthroughs of quality play. Since there are a million characters, you can always try to build different teams.
Overall: Awesome Like I said, my new favorite video game of all time, even more than Final Fantasy 6. Easy to fall in love with the latest 2 Fire Emblem games.
Rent or Buy? You cannot possibly beat this game in one rental period unless you have no life. Buy since it's a staple of the Wii game selection at the moment.

I rather enjoyed Path of Radiance, and played around a bit with the game boy iterations, but still haven't picked up Radiant Dawn. I keep meaning to, though. Is the challenge rating really a lot higher than usual Fire Emblem? Because Fire Emblem games are generally on the high end of the difficulty scale anyway. I'm fond of challenge, but with how unforgiving Fire Emblem is normally, I'm a bit nervous about it being much worse than usual.
In Path of Radiance the difficulty levels were changed to reflect the inability of non-Japanese to cope with challenging games. This is not the case in Radiant Dawn. Though the modes may still be labeled "Easy" "Normal" and "Hard," it's actually "Normal" "Hard" and "Maniac." It's really a lot harder than anything Path of Radiance had to offer. I found my one playthrough so far in Radiant Dawn on Normal (the English normal) to be much more difficult than Path of Radiance's Hard. And it's possible to die on the first prologue and first chapter. Very possible. On Hard even these chapters require a deal of thinking.

Fire Emblem 5: Thracia 776 for the SNES is still harder than Radiant Dawn.
But yes, Radiant Dawn is really difficult, in a good way. Makes you use all resources available, including your brain. God for-fucking-bid we use our brains once in a while!
If you thought Path of Radiance was difficult... :-X
author=harmonic link=topic=1182.msg17686#msg17686 date=1211662315It's not so much that it's difficult to *beat*. It's that I am obsessive compulsive enough to find the permenant loss of any unit unacceptable. Which means I had to repeat a handful of maps quite a few times. The one with the ravens and all the ballista, for example...author=Shadowtext link=topic=1182.msg17677#msg17677 date=1211658490

Yeah i'm in love with this game too but unfortunately haven't had that much time to play it. I find the story to be enjoyable and the fire emblem games just keep getting better with there music. I think i have done about 40+ in my game.
I have this game and I think it's pretty cool. It's one of my favorite Wii games but since there are like three Wii games it's sort of a small pond scenario.
Huh. I just picked up Radiant Dawn, and apparently I was playing Path of Radiance on Maniac Mode, according to Radiant Dawn. I suppose that at least partially explains why I lost so many units in the final battle. Now to decide whether to go "Normal" or "Hard."
Maybe I'll go Normal first, since you guys say it's so difficult.

Don't even attempt it first on hard mode. Most people barely squeak by on Normal mode, and HARD MODE TAKES AWAY YOUR BATTLE SAVES.
author=harmonic link=topic=1182.msg17785#msg17785 date=1211834114You mean you can't even Suspend play? That doesn't make sense....Suspend states don't make the game any easier, they just make it so you don't have to leave your system running if you have to go do something.

Um, they absolutely do make it easier. Not only can you RNG abuse your level-ups with save-states, you can reset and try again mid-battle if you mess up. Makes it WAAAAAAAAAY easier.
I don't know from which oriphace you pulled "suspend state." I never mentioned those words. I'm talking about battle saves. The saves allowed mid-chapter at any point that are certainly never, ever erased.
I didn't have any of those in Path of Radiance. Is it only on the lower difficulties there, too? Or is it a new feature for Radiant Dawn?
