That article is absolutely fantastic. Can you imagine, handing off your masterpiece for billions, and donating everything to a great cause? It would be so easy to just live like a king for the rest of your life.

Stay classy, George Lucas.

Wow. Figure, he already has a couple billion in other assets and accounts, which would be enough for him and the next two generations to live well and develop their own enterprises. Donating this extra cash toward charity is absolutely the right thing to do and an extremely classy move.
In today's times, Philanthropy is a synonym for Tax Evasion.
But I'll reserve those thoughts for another day.
I hope they can keep the vision of "What is Star Wars" right for the new movies. Some Star Wars related media lately hasn't done that quite well.
It'll probably be better than the prequels, Lucas as a creative consultant is more fitting than IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING. Now it just depends on who Disney hires really. I'm just CURIOUS as stars wars has been pulled in every way imaginable in terms of market whoring. Might as well see how this goes.

■The New Republic (5 ABY - 25 ABY)

Having defeated the Empire at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance must now transform itself from a militant resistance force into a functioning galactic government. As Imperial territory is reclaimed, the New Republic suffers growing pains, having to fend off insurrections, Imperial loyalists, and wayward warlords. Also, Luke Skywalker, the last of the Jedi, begins training apprentices, rebuilding the Jedi order.
■The New Jedi Order (25 ABY - 36 ABY)

The Jedi Knights are now a hundred strong. The New Republic has signed a peace treaty with what little remains of the Empire. The galaxy is finally enjoying a peaceful respite from decades of war. It's at this time that a horrible alien menace invades the Republic from beyond known space. The Yuuzhan Vong lay waste to entire worlds in their scourge, as depicted in the novels of The New Jedi Order. Five years later the galaxy goes through the events of the Dark Nest Trilogy. The novels detail how Luke Skywalker and his New Jedi Order confront the mysterious insectoid Killiks, who are a hive-minded species intent on conquering the galaxy.
■Legacy (40 ABY - 138+ ABY)

Having reached peace with the Yuuzhan Vong, the newly formed Galactic Federation of Free Alliance struggles to keep itself working as a single government. But many threats from inside are joined by a danger that comes from the remains of the Dark Side. The new Jedi order created by Luke Skywalker faces a new era as the heirs of the Skywalker legacy grow up. Jacen Solo, perhaps the wisest of that new order, is now Ben Skywalker's master, and together they will have to confront the new powers willing to destroy the Jedi, the Galactic Federation and, maybe, the galaxy. This era includes the Jacen Solo's descent into darkness, and the death of many iconic Rebellion era characters. The Legacy era continues in a series of comics that debuted in May 2006 entitled "Star Wars: Legacy".

Or else.

Except it's been stated on various sites they're looking for a new original story that's not part of the Expanded Universe, and won't be doing a movie on any of the current novels.

Here's the bit from Wikipedia:

Plot

Episode VII is expected to be an entirely original story, and not based on the various novels, graphic novels and other materials that have previously been considered Star Wars canon. As part of the purchase, Disney received an "extensive story treatment" by Lucas. In a video interview that was part of the purchase announcement, Kennedy stated that she and Lucas had already met with writers to discuss the film script.
Lucas biographer Dale Pollock, who had read the original twelve stories written by Lucas, noted that the new episodes would involve character Luke Skywalker in his 30s or 40s. In an interview, Pollock stated that "the three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, 'I want to see these 3 movies.'" Pollock expects the screenplays to follow the treatments written by Lucas.

Edit: Also, from reading that, it would appear that George is still behind some of the scenes, so don't count him out just yet, as he may still have a slight behind-the-scenes hand in this.

If he is donating 4 billion dollars to education I don't really care why he is doing it.

it was the same with the original trilogy really.

I'm sure Lucas doesn't lack money. He can probably live like a king even if he gave away some moneys.

Speaking of related stuff in the sale. Does this mean that stuff like ILM is also owned by Disney now or were they already an independent company (didn't Pixar start out on the Ranch at one point?)

Also if all the IPs were sold there's also all those old adventure games. Sure we already have Telltale having some of the licenses but... you know... what could happen?

Disney aren't exactly known for their excellent video game production. Will we get the Maniac Mansion Facebook game?

author=Someone who works at ILM, after being asked the same question with different wording.
I suppose so.. although we will still be maintaining creative autonomy, much like how Pixar works. So to that respect, I still work for ILM, much like how those who work for Pixar, work for Pixar. On the plus side, I hear we get free unlimited passes to Disneyland parks, so that's not a bad deal. XD

This is great news. Next Kingdom Hearts will have Wolverine and Goofy on my team, where we fight Sith Lords.

I hope they don't use the down scrolling dialogue story, I know that stays true to the classic montage, but whether they'll use that or not. It doesn't bother me at all.
If it doesn't bother you if they use it or not, why do you hope they don't use it?
Because his mind is full of fuck.

Telltale did an awesome job with monkey island "5" (It made me forget how terrible is the fourth one) It would be great that they return the classics click&point. IT would be great if there is a Day of tentacle 2 (or 3 if you take maniac mansion) or recreations.
I heard that ILM is also now owned by Disney. As is all LucasFilm IP (like Indiana Jones, American Graffiti, etc.)

I personally wanted to see the next Star Wars films be made after the Thrawn trilogy. Because those were the first and by far best Star Wars books written. They are just good books, regardless of relation to Star Wars.

See my previous post for clarification on this. An internet aquaintance of mine works at ILM and was asked if he now worked for Disney on Facebook. That was his answer.

And yeah, Lucasfilm is Lucasfilm. It's not just Star Wars that got bought. It's everything.
Maybe we'll see American Graffiti replace Cars. I'd really like a new American Graffiti.

But they almost certainly won't do any more Indiana Jones, since Paramount owns all distribution rights.

It will be cool to see what can be done when Pixar and ILM team up.
As much as the prequels kind of failing at the point when it first started, I don't think so. Episode 1 one was crappy, but it won me over with Liam Neeson.
I hope he makes a force cameo.
Dude, Episode 7 needs Harrison Ford or it will be complete fail!

Also I think stuff like cutting a Sith into 2 halfs with a light sabre will be history... :-/

Still Lucas is an idiot. Now Disney can do with his characters what they want and he can't do anything about it. Glad he already wrote episodes 7-9 so that Disney won't do complete new self invented shit.

Good lord! This is humiliating! Embarassing!
