BEST BOSS FIGHTS
Posts
Have you ever played a game where you have just beaten a certain boss and you think to yourself "That was the best boss fight ever". What is the best boss/bosses you have faced in your videogame experience?
Necrosaro in Dragon Warrior IV.
That boss fight was damn awesome when I first went throught it. It freaked me out the first time I played it - he grew a face in his belly!

I'm not sure about best, but beating Sleeping Table in Persona 3 FES on hard at level 43 was certainly epic. And damn hard. You need to equip the party with +30% MAXHP accessories and to keep your mass defense buff up. If you don't do this, Sleeping Table's Megidola spell will wipe your entire party in one blow, and there's no way to resist the effect outside of the ways I mentioned.
Giygas from Earthbound. Years later and its still my favorite final boss fight in a RPG. A great big bad whose actually live up to the evil monologues of being all powerful 'n stuff? Awesome.

God I love SMT games but Persona 3 drives me nuts with its AI companions and instant death situations. Getting your leader killed by Hama the first round of combat and getting Game Over just like that makes me HATE VIDEOGAMES.
(Note that in Nocturne you can learn skills to make you immune to instant death so)
That's why Oberon is awesome. Strong to Light and Dark and learns Media (heal all) before the healer does? Oh hell yes. :)
(too bad it doesn't help when the enemy hits the main character twice in a critical attack, one shotting him from full HP :( Fuck you Persona 3)

I don't know I just keep Orpheus and Asparas with me the whole game for their combo ability because that is heal all + evade maxed for everyone (ridiculous).
First time I did Chrono Trigger's final boss it was really, really epic. I did the fight where you start outside the shell, so it was all 3 major phases.
I was like "jeeze, this thing just keeps going and going!" And since I was really young, I kind of sucked so I barely won.
Plus the fact that the ending afterwards was long and substantial was an added bonus.

I've always liked the final boss in Last Scenario. It has three forms, is a total be-otch and isn't too ridiculously corny.
Also the first PEEK-A-BOO boss in early FF's (4, 5, 6 I think). Nifty and a great design mechanic (hey the player is an idiot so give them a break to heal, okay?).

Jump on me all ya want, but I've always thought Kingdom Hearts II had some epic boss fights. The game may have been pretty easy, but it's creative with it's boss fights.
Also most of the Metal Gear Solid games.
Also most of the Metal Gear Solid games.
By far the most epic boss fight I've encountered was Lezard 2nd Round in Valkyrie Profile 2. It was mostly "manufactured awesome" due to my low level, but it was the first game in probably 10 years that made me really work for the win and had me up off my seat. And yes, most Metal Gear Solid games have pretty cool boss battles.
PS @ Mog: Rock that Bateman icon!

Oh yeah.
Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas' last mission/boss was unforgettable. I will always remember it.
Another is the end boss of Mark of Kri
Heh heh heh
This sounds gay, but I also really enjoyed fighting the end boss in FF8. I beat that witch like 20 times, and it was always fun.
Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater... The End was a sweet ass boss. Never a cooler sniper battle --or esploded wheelchair--.
Shadow of the Colossus, there were... uh, many memorable battles. There were a couple I didn't like, like the sand snake, the bird, or the end boss... But, ones like the giant ape, the sky dragon, and the swordsman were epic.

Chrono Trigger's BlackTyrano battle. First, the countdown. I like countdown battles, it makes it feel even more like you're in a hurry to beat it. Plus, the music to that battle is one of my favorite boss themes ever.
The final battle for Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones was awesome, too. You had to scale a set of precarious floating rocks to attack the demi-god-like boss, and chop of his angelic wings one by one.
Awesome.
Awesome.

Last boss in Jak and Daxter was awesome. Best platformer I've played outside Nintendo.
I WILL NEVER DELETE THAT SAVEFILE

You can learn learn Null Light/Null Dark in P3, which have the same effect.
In matter of fact, I was using a level 48 Succubus against this boss and her final skill is Null Light, which allowed me to focus on other things in this fight. (This boss also has Hamaon). She is also one of the best mid-late-game personas in the game - her skill combination is excellent. I have one with Agidyne, Bufudyne, Fire and Ice Boost. =)
Also, the Homunculus item saves you from instant-death.
And yes, Oberon is an excellent early-game persona. Check out Titania (Lovers level 48) later if you want a better version.
The best boss fight i've had was versing Yiazmat in FFXII. The boss literally had over 50 million health and half of his attacks could instantly kill you in one hit. He did take me a while to beat him even with all my characters on level 99. The fight lasted me about 2 and a half hours and i was late to work on that day, i was determined not to let that bastard beat me. When i bet him i went to work still shaking from that epic battle.
The first battle with Magus in Chrono Trigger is probably my favorite boss battle ever. The set-up is incredibly forboding, and once the music kicks in you feel a combination of "Holy crap this is incredibly awesome" and "Holy crap I'm going to die!" The fact that Magus is constantly setting up shields that deal damage to you as well doesn't help at all. Plus, the music is awesome.
My second favorite boss battle is the last one from Kingdom Hearts II, where you spend half the time falling through the space-time continuum while knocking enormous platforms back at a knight riding an enormous dragon and half the time dodging attacks in a different space-time continuum while the game pulls out every single Quick-Time-Button-Press trick in the book.
