"A meteor streaked across the sky in eastern Russia Friday (Feb. 15), unleashing a powerful blast that shattered windows, damaged buildings and may have caused injuries, according to Russian officials and news reports."
WOW! well, it said that almost 100 were injured by the blast.
Post your opinions on this news.
wow, that is pretty amazing news. I hope that no one was seriously injured. Apparently 500 people are reported injured, most by cuts from shattered glass falling.
I reard a report where 950 people were reported injured, and 47 of them, gravely so. >=

HOW COME THERE ARE SO MANY TELESCOPE RADAR THINGIES TELESCOPING THE SPACE AND NASA DIDN'T NOTICE SUCH A HUMUNGUOUS METEOR COMING
I MEAN IT'S 10 TONS
They said it 's about 500 people who got injured now.

Why did I think about Captain Price launching an EMP when reading this ? :P

It weighed ten tons, but it was the size of a kitchen table. Objects that small are difficult to track in space. Also, NASA really doesn't have the budget to monitor a lot of this stuff - they monitor the big ones that would cause major, major issues. The smaller ones don't get monitored by the organization. Small independent groups watch as many of them as they can, but there's too many and they're often too small.
I see, then. >_>
Wow, they're far more compact than what I thought. I know meteors are compact but I didn't know they're this compact >_>

...Actually if I stop to think about it...

...Oh, whatever. *searches the ground for IQ Pills*
In that particular case, I expect the density is part of what caused it to explode. Whatever it was made of was heated to such a level that it had to rapidly expand... and, well, there was an outer layer that wasn't as willing to expand, so it was shattered and thrown outwards - and that explosion is what caused most of the injuries, without a doubt. Not as much as being hit directly by the main body would have caused, of course, but still - ow.
I got to say, this news really scared me. My neighborhood said a lot of rumors saying that 2 meteors and an asteroid may come/came to earth.
1. The Russian meteor
2. A possible meteor crash at 3:45 PM Atlantic Time almost close to United States
3. An asteroid coming at 3-5 AM.
I also say that 2 following things here might be just complete rumors, but you never now what a human can do in a day looking for information. We're that awesome!
This is really scary stuff, it's might turn to be like Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
On a fun note of trivia, we get pelted by meteorites all the time. They usually just burn up the in atmosphere though.

...or gets crashed on the moon
Or actually fragments of them, although very small, hit the ground. This is the case of finding & becoming rich. And there are pretty plenty of moon fragments scattered all over the earth, more raining everyday :)

LET'SBIAN DO THIS.

This might be one of the rumour sources. DA14 is the asteroid that passed pretty close yesterday, and they had a livestream of a telescope view.. but it was pretty much just a huge, moving white dot. Apparently the Russian meteorite and this asteroid are completely unrelated and just coincidental.
