YOUR THOUGHTS ON GAMES BASED ON A CERTAIN COMIC OR MANGA?

What do you think about this topic? I personally love manga and would like to make a game based on the BLACK CAT manga series one day, but i would like to see what some people think about some one making a game based around a comic or a manga. It would be interesting if someone made an actual RPG based on fairy tail.
Fairy Tail game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9mgwEaStk4 (Though this looks kinda..iffy.) Heh, while several manga games turn out rather well..quite a bit of others turn out poorly. Haven't seen a Black Cat game, and though it would be kinda cool to see one made, I'm not much of a fan of it.
Only good comic game I can think of is The Walking Dead. (Other than ones related to the Marvel Universe lol~)

Well, even though they aren't RPGs, but we do have many good Spider Man and Batman games, right ? We also have Marvel VS Capcom, so I guess they are cool. :P
Yeah. It would be kind of hard to do i would make it kind of episodic probably volume 1 would maybe be the first game.
As long as the game itself is good I don't care what it's based off of. I've heard Batman Arkham Asylum was pretty well-recieved, and it looks really fun.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Fan games require less effort in some ways but more in others. You don't have to create a world or characters, but you have to make sure you get everything right. I think some people are good at making something out of nothing and other people are good at improving on what exists, and that's fine. A fan game can sort of be like working on a team, except the rest of the team has already done their parts before you start.
Fan games are certainly popular with players, I'll say that.

I always though Soul Eater would be an awesome RPG since the gameplay of a 3 characters with character weapons seems pretty interesting.
I'm agree with LockeZ, Although adapt is a lot harder than just use the world and character and create an original story, Have heard that anime has never been as good as the original manga in terms of story, so yeah, it is pretty much like arranging a book to a videogame. I think you should focus in presentation and gameplay but can't say anything more.

I actually used to draw my own manga although it wasn't that good before I shifted to game development when I was in my early teens. I use to draw comics all the time, since I was like 7 and just kept going. That was my way of expressing a story and my creativity. I like people to visualize what is happening. However I got into game development in my later teens which became a much more enjoyable way of expressing my creative self. Plus I broke my hand around the time so artistry is something that I will never be able to perfect at maximum potential.
I wouldn't mind a manga based off an RPG Maker Game. You know. Like maybe a visual nover using RPG Maker Resources but recorded or images taken from it to explain what's happening like a comic or something. That would be awesome and if anyone is ever thinking about doing something like that and needs a team member then I would willingly assist.

I have a theory that ideas don't appear independently of other ideas.
In other words you may think there are simply fan games and "original" games. But if you examine the original concept, you'll find that many of the better characters are in fact while not wholly derivative, are still a tweak from mixing together aspects are shows you've watched and a bit of yourself to make a character you identify with.
Ambrosia, from my game, if I had to trace her origins would be based somewhat on my early watchings of anime (Slayers particularly), with the whole magic wielding Anti-Hero deal. But her personality is more like Amu from Shugo Chara, someone who appears to be calm and collected but when upset is likely to visibly show it.

on how I made my game ideas can be based on the following.
Totally unnecessary and uncontrollable Imagination. (you don't want to know how bad this is)
Some random TV show that I watched.
Reading random manga or comic.
And all the other stuff I do everyday.

nothing is original.
everything is a recreation from existant archetypes present on the human mindset or things that we see. So when creating a "new" character you're ALWAYS reusing something you've seen. And more times than not, in a conscious manner.
And it's actually way better when you're conscious about it, so you can actually juice some nice subversions or nice cliches off this fact. I mean, you can pick what cliches, because if you're not conscious cliches will come at random.
About manga RPGs...
...Did you ever play Sailor Moon RPG for SNES?

Depends on the quality of the reproduction.
Couple things to keep in mind in terms of direction are... how much do you cater to fans of the source material, and how much do you want it to appeal to wide audience?
Personally, I think if you make a fan game, make it as true to the source as possible.
Anyway, absolutely just go for it, if that's what you want to do.

Sailor Moon Another Story? Yes, I beat it.
I think you're part right. An "original" idea, is basically what you get when splicing together two or more previous ideas together, and splice these with your own experiences.
Eragon (dragon riding and such) + Ghost Hunt (exorcism) =
A story about a girl who lives in a haunted house with her dragon.
+ Something that happened to you personally =
An original story involving ghosts and dragons.
