IS THIS KIND OF GAME POSSIBLE?

Hello, i would like to create a western rpg style game with a totally different mechanics if we speak about character sheet for example, a game similar to Realms of Arkania saga and particulary similar to "Shadow over Riva" title. The main differences from "Shadow over Riva" would be that i would do it in third person (Isometric if possible) and combat would be a dynamic 1vs1 style like "The Immortal". It would have many other minor differences compared to classic jrpgs.

So, is this kind of game possible with this software? or do you have any other software suggestion to do it? Thanks

Third person isometric? Ummm, yes and no. Someone out there has a way to do strategy rpgs with rpgmaker (I saw it on youtube), though it involves a lot of switching stuff on and off (it had page common events, something I've never used at all). I wish I remembered what it was called... revermind, found it. The perspective tricks, on the other hand, might require more plugins than DynRPG is able to make (there are some things not even coded into DynRPG, meaning you have to make something up for them, and keep in mind there might be limitations to little old rpgmaker2k3).
Thanks, how about character sheet modifications?
RMXP has a beta isometric script - I have it somewhere as part of a tactical battle script, but it works out of combat as well. There's a little bit of lag due to the way it interprets the map, but it might have been refined further in incarnations on RMVX or VXAce.

Pretty much any character modifications you want can be done using the scripting in RMXP and up - I wrote an engine that plays new World of Darkness on it (never developed it into a game), and that requires essentially an entire overhaul of all the character related functions from scratch.

As you haven't specified which of the many RPG Makers you're considering using, I'm believing you haven't made up your mind which to get/use (if you do), so for the changes you want to might be better to look into one with RGSS support (XP, VX, or VX Ace).
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Bulma: No one mentioned RPG Maker 2003, so I'm not sure why the HELL you would recommend it for someone trying to do the craziest stuff they can imagine? It's a worse option than RPG Maker VX Ace for a project like this in every imaginable way.

Not that the advanced rpg makers will do a good job. You could technically use RPG Maker, but I'm not sure why you would, since the only things it has that you'd be using are the spell animations editor and the keyboard/joypad support. You would have to create everything else from scratch with Ruby, probably. I mean, you could find scripts for a few of the things you want to do, but they're not gonna work right after you do everything else; downloadable scripts are built under the premise that they're being put into something at least sort of resembling the default rpg maker scripts, and this is just too different from what RPG Maker is designed for. You wouldn't even be able to use the map editor. You'd be making all the maps in photoshop and importing them.

You'd probably be better off with a romhack of one of those two old games, or starting from scratch in a much more general engine like Game Maker or Sphere or Flash or something.

Edit: I dunno maybe I'm just being pessimistic. It's possible, but I don't think it's a good idea, at least not for someone who's equally unfamiliar with RPG Maker and other engines.
Well, yea, he didn't mention which one he was using. You can do ANYTHING in 2k3. :)

I think they had a tactical rpg maker (I forget what it was called), but it pretty much sucked.

You can try this out
.
Thanks for the replies, well I tried out rpgmaker 2000 in the past, and managed to understand quite well how it worked, basically im new on this (but not new at programming) so yeah, I was trying to figure out wich RPGmaker version would be better in case it were actually possible to handle this project. Obviously in case I choose one I would probably first try creating more easy games to learn deeply the software and language mechanics.

The isometric part is something i can work without, however im more concerned about the posibilities to change stats, atributes and skills, and the way the combat is (i must reiterate i would like it to be equal as "The Immortal").

I get your point LockeZ thats why i decided to post here, because im trying to find the ideal software for this.

bulmabriefs144, thanks for the link I have to say however thats not the combat style I want for my game, but I might use it if I plan start creating something more simple.

So, would you guys recommend me to work with any of rpgmaker softwares (between VXace and XP) or just find something else? Thanks
I would suggest you to learn a scripting language, and either use Sphere, ika, or Game Maker (you can find those engines here )

Maybe try with a simple game, like a sidescroller, or something like that, for practice.

Edit: If you can live without the isometric part, you can actually use the newer maker softwares easily (if you can afford them)
I'm going isometric in my current WIP with python/pygame. Since you're not new at programming, you might want to go with a high power language where you can have your game do anything you want it to.
I decided to try with C# and XNA, thanks for the tips though.
