I don't know a lot about RPG making but I did fool around with RPG maker VX a bit. I want to know where a newbie like myself should begin. How do I learn coding and how do I start a team?
Begin with a small project to learn the basics.
You don't start a team until you know the basics, otherwise noone will join you probably...

Experimentation is always good. There are many helpful tutorials on this website. Here is a big compilation of useful things: Master Helpful Things Topic
Start small like Milennin said. People won't help you if you don't first help yourself.
Also, these guys are great if you haven't seen their videos. They discuss game design topics among other things: Extra Credits

Ok I will check all this stuff out. Thank you for this help. I'm mainly interested in doing a good unique storyline and good unique characters. I wanna be the storyline guy :D
Actually, don't even make a serious project right off the bat. Just mess around with the engine, and test out what works for you, and what doesn't.

I wasnt going to start making a serious project first but since I have too much time on my hands I'd like to start thinking up my masterpiece in my head :D. Do a bit of brainstorming and ask for opinions on what ive come up with.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Like the others say, just play about with it at first and try not to become over-ambitious, which is something that's easy to happen in the early stages when you're surrounded by all the new possibilities.
To help avoid over-planning your experimentation period, try and think of things as small as possible. Try to make a mini project with an arbitrary number of maps (say <10) and try to complete it within a fixed period (say two days). Keep eventing simple, maps small and don't worry about custom resources; just use RTP for now.
This will get you in the mindset to experiment and see what you can learn and how to apply it without needing to worry about long-term goals, balancing etc, and just lets you learn the engine.
Although that's just a suggestion; I personally find that setting your limits ahead of time helps. Either way, one thing I'd definitely suggest is to avoid custom resources. It's very easy to burn a lot of time running around looking for and editing new resources without ever actually learning anything about the engine. Start with the RTP and worry about new resources once you've got a serious project in mind and some time with the maker under your belt.

If you want to make a good game with a story, make sure to watch this video here. Although this being an RPG in a game maker, I'm not sure how much original gameplay you had in mind.
Eventually though, you should try to have something that makes your game stand out whether it be through gameplay or graphics. I'm using mostly RTP for my first full game, but I have a unique way (at least imo) that you learn skills as you level up despite the game being a traditional RPG.

When I start on the main game I dont want to use hardly any of what the RPG maker gives me I want it to be completely original.
That's what I was saying about custom resources. Save that desire for originality for a serious project; for the sake of learning it achieves absolutely nothing other than take a hell of a lot of your time.
S'not bad to want new graphics and such, but you will want to prioritise properly.

Thats what I meant by my main game. Ill start off with a not so serious game so I can learn things first.
