I'm curious to see the favorite style of game to do with graphics.

I'm sure that pixelization is a good classic,
realization is the new modern,
and cartoony seems to have a lot of freedom to do in it.

I vote pineapple because 1) pineapple is literally the best food in existence and 2) because all of these graphical styles are good and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Pixel art can get generic, but then again it can be done thematically and really well as in VVVVVVVVVVV, and it ages somewhat well - Link's Awakening still looks amazing to me, but maybe that's all just nostalgia. It's also usually the cheapest to produce time and money-wise.

Cartoony, or rather stylized art can be gorgeous as all hell and often is the best-looking, assuming you have a solidified theme, feel and style. It also ages the best out of the three because it relies very little on the tech, ex. Wind Waker.

Realistic art is expensive and usually doesn't age well because newer technology will improve and new levels of realism will become accessible. However, if you're trying to recreate a situation that feels as similar to real life as possible and you have millions of dollars to throw around, sometimes realistic is the way to go. Certain genres and settings rely on realistic graphics heavily and utilize them well - horror FPSes, for example.

TLDR: They're all good for something!
I like any style except for realistic, but for video games I tend to prefer pixels.

Realism runs the risk of entering the Uncanny Valley, especially with how far technology has progressed, but even if it doesn't I tend to find it dull *coughSkyrimcough*.

Pixel art, on the other hand, can look beautiful if done right. Not to mention that it's easier to make something passable with pixels; in how many other mediums can you get away with slapping something together in MSPaint in five minutes and calling it "retro"?

there are bad done pixels, cartoons and realistic graphics as well as there are awesome ones in each so I agree with Link, LONG LIVE KING PINEAPPLE

I tend to lean more towards cartoony games, simply because they draw my attention the most if they look interesting enough, but I generally don't care about the style of graphics so long as it works with the project and the game itself is fun.

Thus, I voted PINEAPPLE!
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I need to know more about the game I'm picking for before choosing.
You're asking the wrong question. You're asking "What is the best graphic style?" You should be asking "Which graphic style best fits this specific game?"

I don't think it's a wrong question. We all gravitate more towards certain things over other things.

I love all of the selected styles actually, but I think I am not as close to the realistic style compared to the others. Usually companies that can afford making realistic graphics stick to making FPS's because the genre makes the most money right now. EA can make realistic graphics in more genres because the company is very wealthy. (Strange that they are the risk takers in THAT department) Since I love almost every genre (Except sports and racing games) I don't get enough of realistic graphics in my games.

Personally, I like cartoony or pixelated style games. The more realistic a game tries to be, the less interested I am in playing it. Maybe it's because I'm such a kid at heart, but I've never liked gritty realism.

Cartoony, on the other hand, is hit or miss with me. I can appreciate a game for having a unique art style, but if that style rubs me the wrong way, I won't want to play it. I'm all for games standing out from the crowd, but sometimes that keeps them from appealing to me.

Which leaves pixelated, which I'm completely neutral to. It neither draws me in nor pushes me away.

So I guess I'm voting pineapple.
