"This" actually looks rather well done, given who's on board with the project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/portalarium/shroud-of-the-avatar-forsaken-virtues-0?ref=live

This, however, does not: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oliveairgames/dead-and-forgotten-more-than-just-a-zombie-surviva?ref=category

Lol~ :x

"This project will only be funded if at least $3,000 is pledged by Sunday Apr 7, 8:25pm EDT."

Well, that sucks. The guy is 500 bucks richer, a lot of people have basically thrown their money away, and the project goes in the trashbin. Thanks a lot Kickstarter!
^ I think he only gets the money if the project continues, since money is only "pledged" on conditions.

Look on the bright side. People who get exposed to that garbage may come around looking for similar games, and be pleasantly surprised by the amount of freebies out there (here).

You apparently don't even have any idea how Kickstarter works.

Indiegogo (which is another worldwide thing btw, so there's no US exclusivity) has a "flexible funding" thing where a creator of a project keeps all the money pledged even if it doesn't reach its goal (except for the larger-than-usual cut that Indiegogo takes in that case). Though most people tend to be vary before pledging to something like that.

Not even Kickstarter is US exclusive. They've opened it for the UK and I've seen projects from other countries (though I believe they have to have a "US" person or something managing part of it.)

Kickstarter bashing is an easy thing to do but it is completely false that these scams are easy to pull off. Most people who use Kickstarter are fairly informed. There's been so much about it in the media recently about the risks and challenges and sometimes when there is a fraudulent Kickstarter people actually speak up about it (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/75321040/free-roll-machined-gamers-dice ) and then there are things that don't go as planned and the risk of Kickstarting will always be there (http://hive.slate.com/hive/made-america-how-reinvent-american-manufacturing/article/the-lost-lockpick )

There are hundreds and hundreds of shit projects out there that get about 100 dollars in funding and don't even remotely make their goals. Not just anyone can make a succesful kickstarter. Sure there are unemployment quests and the like but they are the exception. And they are an exception where circumstances really favoured them (similar to the 9-year old rpg-making girl). Usually they are human stories where someone sets out to do something after having some kind of setback, something that people sympathize with and throw a couple of dollars their way. (see also: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/lets-give-karen-the-bus-monitor-h-klein-a-vacation--6 )

Obviously in these years of Kickstarting we're still looking for that first massively failed project. With many projects racking up millions of dollars there's bound to be those massively failed ones very soon. Where stuff just isn't as good as it was supposed to be. (or similar to the lockpicking story, where it didn't scale.)

But yeah in the end I'm hugely in favour of Kickstarter, so I'm biased in that way. But I try to keep informed and I pick the projects I back fairly carefully. I see the negatives but I don't think they are as major as you seem to think. Just because of a couple of RTP-RPGs.

Actually you may want to hold that thought, Ezekiel, because:

Never said that, but if this thing can so thoroughly abused that you can LITERALLY submit a piece of shit and raise thousands of dollars for it, the whole system should be taken down immediately and they should re-think it very carefully. People are being deluded into thinking they're pledging money to a game with fully custom graphics and created from scratch.
the problem here really is that JustRob is basically anti-capitalism lol

Why is being anti-capitalism laughable.
NOACCEPTANCE772
And the ability to summon the "Office Whores" to deal damage to the enemies.

All those crap games managed to reach their goals?!... :\
Look at Rainbow Nightmare libra thingie.
I never knew it was on kickstarter.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/865595294/rainbow-nightmare-libra
This game looks like it is worth it but the pledging was unsuccessful. >.>
I remember all these shitty-assed RPG maker games like kingdom of Lumnia and Deadly Sin.
They are shit, they use RTP and RTP only and they still ask you to pay 30$ to get the full game.
What the actual f*ck?
Unemployment Quest seems to be one of the worst of these shit games.
I mean, come on.
Anybody with common sense would totally buy Neo Kuriyo's "Alter Aila Genesis" and avoid these games.
It makes me sad to see those crap games getting funded... :|

I wasn't implying that, but now that you mention it the average Joe being anti-anythingPolitical is pretty laughable, yeah.
Some people don't want to see RTP games on RMN! because it offends the sensibilities!!!

Who is Margaret Thatcher
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

She was the judge in Huckleberry Finn. Huck signed his fortune over to her to keep it from his father.
Wow...that's a lot of money for those 'games'
Do people even need $40,000 for a game like that.
Ofcourse they do, they gotta buy all those CD's to put the games on

Just think of how many floppy disks you can buy with $40,000

But no, they don't need $40,000, which is why they only asked for one fourth that much. $10,000 is enough for two people to work full-time for about three months, if they live alone in a bad part of town and eat ramen noodles every night. So I think it's actually pretty fair, honestly, if they plan to spend six months or more on the game (presumably they'll make some more money when it's finished, by, you know, selling it)

Justrob, someone sent me a PM saying that you were responsible for the death of Margaret Thatcher. Is that true?
