GETTING YOUR GAME OUT THERE - WHERE TO POST YOUR GAME?

Besides RMN of course. If you want to reach the greatest audience, you're going to want to get it to as many places as possible. There's nothing wrong with a little cross-posting.

Once upon a time I knew more places, but nowadays it seems like a lot of Indie sites are commercial or go home.
The sites I'm aware of are
-Various Rpgmaker sites, many (but not all) of which have seen decreased activity in recent years
-GameJolt

That is sadly about all I know. Does anyone have any recommendations for sites that accept freeware downloadable games? It does not necessarily have to be RPG exclusive.
I'm actually interested in this topic as I'm quite new to all of this and have only posted my game here and on rpgmakerweb
YouTube vids work well - especially if you can get someone popular to LP your game. You can also reach out on FaceBook, Twitter and Tumblr (the last one's good for blogs).

Also, TvTropes.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The "best" choice IMO is probably to get your own website, and then get gaming news sites to write short articles about your game with links to your site. Alternately, maybe just skip to the second half of that sentence. I mean, that's how most people find out about games. They read gaming blogs.

Your game had better be the shit for that to work, though. Ain't no gaming blog gonna link to any of my games right now, that's for sure.

For my last game I posted a thread on these websites.
The first one can only be used for vx ace and has similar
entry requirements as rmn. The second one seems to accept anything,
but hardly anyone visits it. (I'm actually the first and only
completed game to be posted on the second forum at the moment.)

Youtube also gets people in foreign communities interested in your game. A few months ago I got a PM from a forum that showcases games and my game got over 3000 downloads in a week with a lot of reviews and feedback (Most in a language I barely understood, but it was still great).

If you're interested in a global audience then youtube is a good way to start, just make sure you have control over the content that is shown. LP's are good, but I've noticed that a lot of those videos seem to go for the (I'm a really funny guy or I know everything and I complain about everything in this game. Or the worst kind the "Feign ignorance" type who pretends things are either unexplainable or too hard.) and you usually only have one chance to make a good impression on people and a bad LP could kill it for you. That being said, your own gameplay videos or trailers could do a good job in attracting people to your game.
I had posted my game at
- RPG Maker Web
- RPG Maker VX Ace
- RPG Maker Revolution
- Capcom
- MegamanX9.com
- XSEED Forum
- VNSharing

I did get an adequate amount of recognition from Ace and Revolution. The other sites? Eh, not so much. I was thinking of getting into the Japanese community as well, but heck, I had no idea how or where to start. :P

You would still need someone popular plays it to get people's attention. :)
I heard somethingawful can be pretty good ...or bad about it.
Yeah, if your game is a fangame, or similar to a fangame, you can also check out and post it on forums dedicated to the source material. ie- if you made a Naruto game, you could look for Naruto fan forums. Same for FF and DQ fangames, etc..

Other than that... I don't know. I don't get out much.

Yup, that's what I did. But unfortunately, I got even less attention than on normal forum. :|
