Wow its a minecraft rpg and so far it has absolutely nothing to do with minecraft's core concept. Minecraft is a sandbox game where you survive the wilderness and build your own world, not a generic RPG slamfest. I'm not really impressed, why couldn't this game not have "Minecraft" in the title?

because having "minecraft" in the title is a good way to get easy popularity with minecraft's slavishly devoted fanbase.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Everything I see about Minecraft makes it look like the worst game of all time, but maybe that's just me.
This is meanwhile completely unrelated to Minecraft except for the style of graphics (the second worst style of graphics ever created, trumped only by ascii maps like dwarf fortress and nethack). And is full of completely generic, totally default gameplay. So yeah this clearly must be the OP's game, there's no other logical reason why he would post it. And thus the topic should be deleted. The forums are not the place to advertise your game (or your best friend's game), especially if it's this shitty.

I don't think it's his game. it's just that minecraft fans have no sense of quality and as long as something pushes all the right buttons in their self-referential little psyches it'll be considered a masterpiece.

Yes the graphics are near PSX level of bad, but it evokes emotion, and while it there is no "purpose" to the game, the whole objective is to create that purpose for yourself. If you want to build stuff, go ahead, and if you want to roam an open landscape and fight monsters, you can do that too.
It's not everyone's cup of tea, like some people are making it out to be, but the freedom that's involved in its design makes it glorious to me.

Also, where have any of us said that we dislike fan games? Most comments are on how the game itself is terribly presented and, in my view, doesn't get the point of Minecraft at all.

Wow... it's called joking around. You may or may not have heard of it. I'm leaning more towards the 'not' side though, seeing as you're all up in people's faces over inconsequential shit. Just... wow. Are you always like this?
This topic is fine by me. It's a topic to discuss a game that is not the topic creators', nor is it on-site. If one of the other mods feels like it should be shut, then they'll do that, but for the moment it's okay.
It's not the greatest fan-game I've ever seen, but the idea is pretty neat, actually. I've definitely seen a lot worse and I think the blocky look fits the idea behind the game, too. It's definitely... interesting.

On that note - looking at it again, it's actually pretty clever to take one genre of game (in this case, sandbox) and adapt it to another. You don't usually see stuff like that with fangames, (though there are commercial games that have done it - Lufia 2 going from straight RPG to Action RPG as an example, or FF7 and the various offshoots that aren't really RPGs.) It's definitely something interesting to look at.

yeah, no, the rest of my post after the "let's laugh together!" was for the thread in general. not you. looks like Ratty beat me to it, but whatever, one more drop in the bucket.
I... guess I like the way the guy did the sprites? the big-head overworld characters are kind of stylish. the awkward thick lines and forced 3/4-view on anything hand-drawn kind of ruin them for me, though.
