Into Darkness was so awesome! I definitely recommend going to see it. Benedict Cumberbatch was bloody brilliant, and I would totally see it again. Can't wait for Man of Steel, Desolation of Smaug, Thor 2, and a few others!
No One Lives is a very good slasher. Maybe the best.

Let's see what awesome I've seen recently: Avengers, Iron Man 3, Wreck-it Ralph, The Amazing Spider-Man...

Really looking forward to The Hobbit 2: We're Really Stretching the Book Content Now, and Man of Steel. Thor 2 is obviously going to be amazeballs.

Not everyone's cup of tea but for those who are into the exploitation genre (are there even any people in that subset?) I recently watched Nude Nuns with Big Guns and Run, Bitch! Run! I hasten to add that I only watched them because the trailers were so ridiculously cheesy and we had friends over so we decided to have a movie night but only watch utter trash.

Yeah, the Hobbit 2 looks like it's going to pretty awesome.

I actually saw a bunch of movies in the last couple of days -- which is rather peculiar, because I don't watch a lot of movies that much anymore.

Snow White & The Huntsman: I really liked it a lot, don't understand why it got a lot of bad reviews from most critics; I really enjoyed it. The last part of the movie made me have shades of "Ocarina Of Time" for some reason (must be because of that ever-winding stairs before fighting the main villain). Not as memorable as the Disney incarnation, but, then again, it's Disney...kinda hard to top that one.

Teenage Mutant Turtles (Live Action, 90's): I haven't seen this movie since I was a little kid and being a big-time fan of the original cartoon series! I remember all the hype surrounding this movie and being so impressed by it as a kid. But -- how does it hold up now? Well...it's not as good as when I first saw it back then...but the costumes still look kind of neat for today's standards (with Splinter getting my most approval).

Silver Linings Playbook: Even though I can't remember the title for the life of me -- this movie kicked ass! It starts off quite bizarre and a bit funny during the beginning, with the main character going all "mental" on everyone. Then it goes into a rather..."depressing" swing before picking itself back off from the ground. I really didn't want to watch this movie at first, but my Brother told me to stick with it until the end. I actually wanted to "bail" as soon as the movie got to the "depressing" parts but found that my sacrifices of sitting through it all was worth it. You guys should check it out if you get a chance.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on Snow White & the Huntsman, Addit; I thought it was pretty awful. Not as bad as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, though.

My comic nerd friends are all saying Man of Steel is terrible.

That's a good sign. Since we all know that superhero comics are terrible.

I really liked Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. I thought I had posted about it in this thread already but apparently not.

To me it was exactly the movie I imagined when I was a kid. Sure that means certain things that are weird (and I'm not saying it's not weird) but before I saw it I heard a lot of "who is this movie for?" and "it's tonally inconsistent."

And yes it is tonally inconsistent and yes there's probably not a lot of people it is for. Mostly because it's a fairly light pg-13 movie with all that lovely extra stuff that unfortunately made it R-rated in the Americas.

I have griped about the rating system before in that there is such a gigantic line between pg-13 and R that there isn't room for movies that are barely R. They're always pg-13 or full-on R. There's no room for "light R" in the hollywood system.

Of course this mightn't be one of those cases but it also kinda is. But back to the movie. I agree that it wasn't the best thing in the world but I really enjoyed it because, again, it felt a lot like those things I imagined as a kid and it had that fairy-tale streak to it that felt so right while being a continuation of it.

Like the opening retelling of Hansel and Gretel. Everything in that scene was right.

And I also liked that Hansel had to take insulin shots, that was such a cute detail. :D

So this was my long-winded way of saying that Snow White and the Huntsman was a lot worse because holy shit what an unengaging take on Snow White. (Mirror, Mirror on the other hand. I loved that one)

Eh? It's even WORSE than Hansel & Gretel? But me and my sister planned to see it (since the trailer kinda looked cool and stuffs) ._. Surprised you thought it's worse than it considering Kristen Stewart's in Snow White (or was it Amanda Seyfried?? I keep getting those two mixed up ><)
@ivoryjones: Amanda Seyfried was in Red Riding Hood. Which I actually liked, it had a dark sort of feel to it. Kinda' like Johnny Depp's Sleepy Hollow feel.

How do you mix up Seyfried with Stewart? Stewart can't act to save her life, and has this one stupid expression she wears all the time~ Amanda has been in a lot more movies, and is a very good actress, and one is golden blonde, the other a brunette. I love your avatar btw~

I know Kristen "one face for every occasion" Stewart is in Snow White and the Huntsman, but honestly the thing that made me like Hansel and Gretel less was the KUNG FU WITCHES. Shit just ruined it for me. I know it was meant to be lighthearted but it was too over-the-top for me and ruined any immersion the film had built up to that point. I did like the insulin touch though, don't get me wrong. Also Hansel was Hawkeye, so that was neat.

Red Riding Hood was utterly awful in my opinion. It plodded through a paper-thin murder mystery plot with thoroughly one-dimensional characters who seemed to be reading their lines from a prompt.
@Kat
Well, they ARE both in a fairy tale-based movie.

Also dudesoft, I've actually heard BAD things about Red Riding Hood. :|

@Trihan
Huh? Lol the "kung fu" thingy was what attracted us in the first place! xD
I find it hard to justify going to see a movie in theaters any more, with the cost of it and all the advances in home theater systems. Plus I own a projector, so...

I really want to see the new Star Trek. The last movie I was interested in was probably the previous Star Trek movie haha I don't watch tv or anything so I don't even know what new movies are coming out. I need to catch up on my Will Farrell movies :D

One movie that seems very interesting to me in Another Earth. Has anyone seen it? The concept seems cool but I read that the story follows some college student? Seems kinda iffy but maybe that'll make it more endearing.

It's apparently the first movie that Will Smith starred in that didn't top #1 on opening weekend. Will Smith's beginning of the end. Apparently the movie is utter trash.
Hmm, I don't think we're talking about the same movie. The Fresh Prince isn't listed as being in this one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1549572/

Ah, your thinking of After Earth heh I'll be sure to stay away from that one.
I listed Another Earth as one of my top10 movies of the year it came out so I thought it was pretty effective at what it did. However it also is incredibly indie. So indie that it has muted colours and people staring silently into space a lot. So if that's something you absolutely can't stand then it's not a movie for you.

Brit Marling is very interesting though. I also saw her in Sound of My Voice and she's someone to look out for.

Good to hear. I want it to be a good movie because of the concept. I have no problem with that kind of movie. I really liked Pi.

What about that move Super 8? I hear it's got some crazy twist and it's really good, but people are adamant about not giving spoilers because of the twist. Should I watch it?

I loved that movie! So much a lighthearted romp in bloodletting fun!

I was skeptical going in because "dear god what aren't they mining for movies these days? I mean, a HARDCORE hansel & gretel?" but wow it was just so much fun to watch!
