Well, I guess I'll do the obligatory introduction now that I've registered.
Hi, I'm Alex, 40 years old and a gamer for as long as I can remember. On the internet I'm Better known under the moniker AxeGaijin and I'm AKA The Grumpy Old Gamer.
Picked up RPG Maker VX ACE this last Saturday night (Don't browse the Steam store when you're bored on a Saturday night kids). Since then I've been learning to use it with the Ring of Udrai Tutorial and today I've started working on my first game.
Don't get excited though... I'm that guy that starts a thousand projects full with gusto, good ideas and coffee, only to finish not a single one.
So I'm looking forward to hanging out here, getting to know you guys and then disappear again in 2 years time, never to be heard of again ;)

Hi and welcome!
Hanging out, getting to know everyone and then disappearing never to be heard from again is what I've been doing since 2001, though I have an annoying tendency to come back.

The first rule of RMN club is you don't speak about RMN club.
Welcome, AxeGaijin! I hope you get enough gusto to finish one of your projects. Also, old people are cool. (You're not that old, though.)

Hello! Welcome to this, the most wonderful community. (Maybe. Probably.) Enjoy your stay here, and break a leg while you're trying to complete one of your many projects.
... But not in real life! Or we'll have to hunt you down.

(We sure are getting a lot of new members around here, lately... I guess those old camp recruitment ads are working!)
Welcome, bud, to the "Real Men Networking" addition. We make games, share stories, post some porn, have a good laugh, and then blame it all on some random sucker called "Addit". I am that sucker. And I'll be happy enough to take your coat. ^^
(Besides, you're much older than me -- I have to listen to you, good sir.)

Well thanks for the warm welcome.
Only reason I mentioned my age in my first post is because I've found it'll come up eventually especially on game related forums. I feel being a 40 year old gamer that's played some proper "old skool" games in his time, that it gives me a unique perspective at times.
And I slip into my Grumpy Old Gamer persona when I see people complain about how something is "unfair" or "too hard", especially when it concerns MMO games, I always cringe wehn people complain about grinding in games like WoW, Rift or SWTOR. None of those can hold a candle to the grind that was named EverQuest back in the early years.
Oddly, I don't have much of a connection with JRPG. The only JPRPG I've played is the FF series (8 is my fav) and I've not even finished 12 (stuck around level 35).
My first RPG was The Bard's Tale II back on C64, and I don't remember there being many JRPG on C64 in the first place :)
It was a PC game much later that really cemented my love for the RPG genre; The Elder Scrolls, Daggerfall.
So we'll see how I fair as JRPG maker :)

The longer you hang out here the better I will feel about my own age... except that you are actually actively making a game with gusto (I lost my gusto years ago and I don't remember where I put it).
Welcome to RMN! Maybe I won't be the only one here who remembers playing the Atari 2600!

Ah sorry Ketona... Pong, Atari 600Xl, C64, C64II, Amiga CDTV, Amiga 1200, PC, Playstation, N64, Xbox, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, Playstation 3. :)
Don't know how long my Gusto will last these are the humble beginnings I have after my first day on my game:

I've decided to go with the KISS system for now and use the default tilesets and chars. The intro scene is a place holder and will be longer eventually.
