TWO MUSIC TRACKS

So, I got a review for my game, and they brought up this issue.

1. In the intro it's kind of jarring to have the voice acted lines and then the exact same lines in text after that's finished. It's made worse by the fact that after every VA line the music that's playing starts again from the beginning.

Basically, I made a loop play-once mp3 thing that would revert sound back (because it interrupted the musc) after play. But this is more what I want.

1. That's kinda the problem of the year. I'd like some sorta plugin that allows a second music file to "play_once" (or "play_loop" if you need a background sound like clock ticking) over the music. Then I could have the music at like half volume, and it would play once. It'd be even better if it would not halt everything until sound is done.

Is this sort of thing even possible?
I think sound effects can be used like that... The main difference between "BGM" and "Sound Effect" being that sound effects only play once, and there can be multiple instances of sound effects at the same time. For a looping sound effect, simply tie a sound effect to a parallel process with a "Wait..." command at the end.
The issue is... wav files are uncompressed. Mp3 is nearly the same quality, but about 56KB for a 0:06 file, instead 1.56MB or so. I have ALOT of sound files, so having massive wav files is kind of a non-option.

So I did this play once solution, but it needs either some sort of loop or timing a wait event. Neither one addresses the issue of interrupting the sound though.
So sound effects can only be .wav files... Maybe that's what a prospective patch can focus on. Seems easy to fix at first glance: altering the file type that some kind of play_sound_effect function uses.

In the meantime, there was a music patch called "Disharmony" somewhere... Linked from Cherry's website's projects page, I think. That allowed loop points to be set inside .mp3 files. You could have an .mp3 with a loop point that, after playing through itself, just looped this little 1 second of silence at its end over and over.
Yea, I never thought of that way (dunno why). If there was some kinda patch in the RPG Maker itself that let it accept mp3 files when choosing SE, I could just import all needed files depending on whether I wanted them single play or whatever.

But in the mean time, I've just decided to try to replace them all. If it's too big, I'm gonna make a zip folder and have it downloadable.
Disharmony sounds like your solution because you can also play MP3/OGG/... sound effects.
How exactly does it work? There was a tutorial website link but Ugly Forum was down...

Nvm, I found it. Rename everything to mp3.wav, huh?

Hmmm, I gotta recheck it. It's not playing still, something I must not have done.

Ohhh, I moved everything, but forgot to use the patcher. Works now.
