MAKING LAMPS THAT WORK (RMXP)

Posts

Pages: 1
I have lamps in my town and most of the time they're off. However, there is one scene when they're in the town after dark. I having everything tinted to near darkness but I'd like to have light coming from the lamps.

How can I do this because the screen tint makes every event go dark. I put in a light image but that doesn't really do much to help the situation.

What you're looking for this case is not an image, which will be locked to the screen instead of the map. You're looking for a fog.

Make a fog the size of the map you want it for. To determine this size, multiple the number of tiles per 32.

20 x 15 map = 640 x 480

You might need to take many screenshots depending on how big the map is. Put them together using software such as Photoshop. Now, you can do whatever you like on a different layer above it and save that layer as a .PNG file.

Import that picture as a fog and call it in from the game using the command Change Map Settings -> Fog Graphic. Make sure the zoom is at 100% instead of the default 200%, and you'll be good to go!
Wait, what's wrong with tinting? Just make sure it reverts to the tint you want when turned off. You can even make it switch free, by running all the processes work by event facing.

(Yes, I am well aware that this is 2k3. Most of the processes are similar in XP. I don't happen to own XP anymore, because it fails when I switch from my upstairs computer which I paid for, to my downstairs.)

This is for inside where light is always 100, 100, 100. If you have some sort of time-change thing, replace the turn off with a common event that's like, if this time is 9am, tint to this color, otherwise tint to that color.

(Page two is different dialogue for another condition. The actual process is just this page)
I've taken the screen tint path myself but the fog one would look more realistic.
I can't really be bothered with it right now so I'll probably touch them up when I'm done with everything else.

It will take a fair amount of effort because there are only two lamps in the entire town that I want lit up. Other than that, there are only two campfire scenes.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Just use a black fog, with transparent holes where the lamps should be lighting up. And then set it to like 20% opacity, which you can do either in the image editor or in rpg maker. You don't need screenshots of the map.
