Does anybody have an option on the new ouya thingie? Right now the main selling point seems to be ease at which it can be used as an emulator.

BW, I guess you mean opinion ... that said, I found these reviews for you:

It mentions the emulation issue. Also, since it has Android as an underlying OS, people will hack it to provide it some new functionalities. There are also some other competing projects to take into account. $99 seems a bit steep for now ...
Yes go by what I mean not what I say :P

I was hoping someone one here had personal experience with one of these android consoles or gaming tablets.

Sorry about that ... needless to say I don't think any of them will reach mass adoption as dedicated consoles or portable systems have.

Just so you know, last year I looked into the Archos Gamepad and Wikipad. The latter, which was originally sold for $500, is now $250. It's incredible how quickly tech can become obsolete. Nvidia Shield looks promising @ $299.
I'm five, maybe ten years behind the times when it comes to being tech savvy. A lot of stuff I need to figure out first but an SNES/N64 emulator I can plug into my TV is awful tempting. (if I can plug it into my TV I need to check that out first)

besides by the time I make up my mind something better will be on the market.

If you have some sort of HDTV with VGA or HDMI connectors and a computer either of those connections, you could use the emulator on the computer to play games on the TV. I have tried a SNES emulator and it works pretty well.

I kickstarted one and received it about a month ago. Like you said, I've used it pretty much to have a dedicated emulator on my TV (and to, uh, support independent gaming; yeah, go with that). There are a few interesting RPGs on the store that I've tried: an FF3 port from the DS version, "Saturday Morning RPG" which is like a painfully self-aware Paper Mario, and "Chronoblade," which is an entertaining but pretty mindless hack and slash that runs rather poorly.

I haven't had any wifi connectivity issues, but the buttons do tend to stick under the surface of the controller if you mash them too hard. The controller has a good heft to it, and I haven't had an issue pairing it or anything, so other than that I like it well enough. It's got a touch screen right on the front of the face, so sometimes you'll get an unexpected mouse cursor on the screen in the middle of play. I can't tell if the input is slightly laggy or if I'm just getting old.

The HDMI is weird on my TV. I have to turn the TV off and back on after starting the console up or else I don't have any sound.

Overall, it was an interesting experiment, and I don't regret supporting it, but it's got a few too many first-time mistakes to really compete with the major consoles. But then again, there isn't anything as serious as the red ring of death that I'm aware of, either.
