I've been using rpg maker since around 2002, I was ecstatic when XP was released in English legally but i've never been able to afford it or Vx that followed. I was able to catch VXACE on steam for 66% off, bit the bullet and bought it! Maybe none of you care but this is a huge moment for me! I can finally use rpg maker legally and it's a GREAT feeling! I've always been stuck in a weird place where buying it would have put financial stress on me (im disabled and am limited to a small amount of hours working for the state), but at $23 I can finally join your elite club of um... legalism I guess! :D
Congratulations of your purchase of RPG Maker VX Ace.
Now all you have to do is spend the next couple weeks
tinkering around with it to figure out how it all works.
This story sounds somewhat familiar. Only instead of just skipping 2K3, we have somebody skipping 2K3, XP, and VX.
You, uh, might be in for something of a shock!
*Edit: Though, the OP kinda makes it sound like he's used 2K for all this time, whereas in my case, I wasn't using RPG Maker at all 'till I looked up XP.

Good ol Steam Summer Sale.
Thanks for reminding me that I can't get anything :c
(not that I want anything anyways)
Scratch one dishonest person off the list of potential suspects.
The rest of you are all going to jail.

I was using 2k3, and it's still my favorite engine, but now I can actually work on something and put a bit of effort into it to make it worth showing others. The interface on ace is actually a pretty easy transition, Not a huge fan of the mapping style but ill get used to it.

Between this and a few other things, I already spent more than I had... Worth it :D
I know the feeling. Before I bought VXA the last legal RM product I owned was... the PS version. And even that was a rip. :/
That said, it does feel good to do the right thing by something that's been a big part of your life. (I realised today that I've literally spent half my life with RM as my hobby. That's about 15 years now.)

...If only you devoted more of that time into your tennis game than you could have been the greatest tennis player alive!
But RMing is a fine, second choice!
I'd say doing something creative is always better than doing something not creative. You might die one day, but your creations live on.
