NEEDING SOME HELP STARTING OFF IN RPG MAKER 2003?

(Sorry that this is reposted, but this seemed like a more appropriate place to post. If I could, I would delete my old post.)
So my game is going to run on RPG Maker 2003. My problem is mainly with the sprites. I've created a field sprite and a battle sprite. Problem with the battle sprite is, I don't know how to change it from the default ones you select. (There's a drop down menu with default ones.) The field sprite seems wrong all together. I made a feild sprite at that charas project website. But when I import it in a RPG Maker, its too big. (The defaults are "char1" and my sprite is way bigger than the ones on that one. I've been looking for a solution for a while now and I hope you guys can help me out.

Under Animations 2 tab, create a new entry or edit an existing one. Then go under Poses sub-tab, from there you can set all the animations for the different actions.

Your sprite sheet must be 288 x 256, with each sprite being 24 x 32.
A charset is a picture of a certain size, with a layout of frames. Learn how it's made up.

8 sets of 3x4 blocks of frames. From the top, it starts with UP then RIGHT then DOWN then LEFT. The middle is the standing still frame, and the side are for when the sprite is animated. It goes 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2. So it starts by showing the middle frame, then the side frame, back to the middle, then the other side.

Just take an existing charset image, open it in an image editor, and paste in your sprites to match the proper layout.

Save it as a new image(.png is best) and place it in your games Charset folder. You do not need to use the Import function at all. The only thing you need to do is make sure you set the transparency right.

I suggest you use iDraw. download for Windows. It's small and simple to use for 2k3 sprites. It easy to do transparency, it's the first color in the palette list. Just make that color be the bg color and 2k3 will understand that it's supposed to be transparent.

It's best to learn to do it yourself. Each type of image has a different size. Battle chars, battle animations, chipsets... If you google templates, so "charset template" or "chipset template", you will find images full of colored sqaures to help understand the size restrictions. I always just edit existing images to keep the right size.

As far as changing battle sprites, go into the database, click on the Animations 2 tab, then there's another tab called Poses. That's where you change them for each character. The poses tab uses files in the Battle folder, but you can make much better looking ones by using the next tab, Animation Type. You can create battle animations of a larger size with more frames and set them as poses. You would make them in the Animations 1 tab of the database.
